Scan tool for repairs and troubleshooting?

I carry on of these in my truck https://actron.com/content/obd-ii-pocket-scan-plus cheap and simple. Pretty sure mine will not do ABS and Airbag but they have other affordable models on their website.

Show me your DITCH LIGHTS or ROCK CLEARANCE lights

When I did the headliner in my truck I used these, I was thinking about mounting them under the truck, their nice and strong and sealed to keep water out, you can get them in several different sizes. I was also considering adapting a truck bed lighting kit...

    Goodyear Duratrac AT?

I had them on my truck (33x12.50) before I switched to 35" K02's. I did like them but the sidewall is soft and they did get noisy with age (and yes I'm picky about balance and rotation). I'm hearing good things about the new Toyo Open Country R/T also, but I don't know anyone with a set yet.

GMC Jimmy (K5 Blazer) 5.3 Vortec 3 link coil spring build.

Once everything was wrapped and clamped in place I could disconnect the lines blow them out, put the locks in and hook everything up. And that was it, pretty simple. Now I have the peace of mind knowing my fuel line wont fall apart from the inside out (hopefully). The truck runs much...

GMC Jimmy (K5 Blazer) 5.3 Vortec 3 link coil spring build.

To connect the fitting to the line is easy, grab a flair tool and clamp the fuel line in in it, Next take out the locking clip from the fitting. Then find a socket that fits inside the fitting, in this case it was a 10mm for the 3/8 fitting. Put a tiny bit of light oil on the end of...

GMC Jimmy (K5 Blazer) 5.3 Vortec 3 link coil spring build.

Fuel system upgrade Now that I've decided to take the Jimmy in the "Overland" direction it's really got me thinking. I know there's a million things to think about, but here are a few of my concerns that pertain to the truck and repairs. 1. Is it reliable? 2. Can I fix it myself? 3. What...

    Larry's 1978 K10

Turns out I'm old and confused  I was under the truck yesterday and I happened to look at the rear shocks and their 5125's. I swear I bought 5100's for the rear but I guess not, sorry for the bad info.

    Larry's 1978 K10

Don't waste your time with the 5100's. I have them all around on my Jimmy, the front is ok but I know I need way more shock with the Deaver coils, their super spongy. The rear is a different story, I have the stock leafs with a 4" ORD shackle flip and 12" travel 5100's, Their ok until you hit a...

    Fuel Pump Trap Door

Next I had some adhesive backed foam insulation that I used around the flange then secured it with self tapping screws and that's pretty much it! There is a flange that the lid sits on but it doesn't go all the way around, you could put a seal on the flange but it will only be sealed...

    Fuel Pump Trap Door

Did a quick project today that I thought I would share. This is nothing new but it's been something I've been wanting to do for a while. The thought of dropping my 31 gallon gas tank in the middle of nowhere, in the dirt, on my back to change a fuel pump was not appealing. I know a lot of newer...

GMC Jimmy (K5 Blazer) 5.3 Vortec 3 link coil spring build.

Once welded and painted I put the axle back together, installed all new brakes and bearings. Now I could slide it under the truck for the final time. The steering linkage between the column and the box was a challange. I used all Borgeson jounts (4 total) and (2) 3/4" heims for...

GMC Jimmy (K5 Blazer) 5.3 Vortec 3 link coil spring build.

Once everything was was where I wanted it on the axle I could box everything in and weld it up. Then I could weld up the frame brackets and paint them. For a quick test my buddy had some Bronco spring laying around, The springs I would be using were 5" long travel Deaver's...

GMC Jimmy (K5 Blazer) 5.3 Vortec 3 link coil spring build.

Back from a little vacation to Jackson Hole Wyoming, what a beautiful area! On with the build, Onc ethe main links were set up and after a few adjustments i could keep testing and checking the clearances. Then I could add the track bar and steering for testing.

GMC Jimmy (K5 Blazer) 5.3 Vortec 3 link coil spring build.

I found the same thing, I originally set them up with very little inboard angle much like the new Ford's and Dodge's. In the pic I moved the axle brackets all the way out to the inner C's and it was much better but the tires would have hit the bars when turning. I could have made the setup work...

Thanks, I never thought about making a Blazer an "overland" rig, but hey I figure I'm in this deep let see what happens.

GMC Jimmy (K5 Blazer) 5.3 Vortec 3 link coil spring build.

At this point I was feeling pretty proud of myself, until I tested the movement. I had floor jacks on each end of the axle at ride height, lowered one of them and nothing, maybe a few inches. You see a radius arm set up has an inherent bind. To over come this you can use soft bushings, a wristed...
