Might be worth it to get an OBD2 reader. On a vehicle like this it will save you a pile. Decent ones can dig deep in the ECUs. It doesn't have to be LR specific so you can use it on whatever vehicle your daughter ends up with and your wife's car. That way, she won't beef over the price. Pretty...

Is there supposed to be an outer seal gasket? It looks like there should be an outer rectangular shaped gasket that is missing, except where it goes around the holes. That would keep all the dirt and water away from the inner rings.

When you can, have the engine and frame steam cleaned so you can really see if the frame needs attention or not. Columbia is wet and humid, right? Any alkalai dust can start pitting unprotected steel bits over time. What engine? Well, if and when you get tired of it, please post.

I know a guy who has over 350K on his 2006. You have to stay on top of the fluid changes as LR MAX says. Synthetic oil for the engine. MAKE SURE you change the coolant. Do Not exceed service intervals, change fluids 10-20 percent sooner than the manual says. Cheapest insurance you'll find.
