    Mid-size vs Full-size truck setup

A dealer near us had their first one on the lot. The salesman said it had a price tag of $119k, and was sold.😳

I have an acquaintance who went from full frame Canon to the Olympus system. He is very happy with OM.

Affordable Stand for My Southwest Disk Discada Pan

Garrett, I have the same disk, but use the burner/stand that came with a crab boiler. The burner connects to any standard propane bottle. The discada is very well made and is effective.

    Cotton Clothing?

As BritKLR mentioned, Arborwear. I forgot about them. Great canvas pants with double layer over the thighs.

    Cotton Clothing?

I like the canvas shirts from Bean. Carhart is on my list, too.

    Family Camping In The Steens

I assure you, Jackman has mosquitoes. Not as bad as the Center Patrol road and Page Springs, but the needle nosed little monsters are there. Stop by at dawn or dusk, and experience them for yourselves.

Rtt on roof gutters on a jeep

Years (decades?) ago, Canoe Magazine had a photo of a brace of canoes on a gutter mount rack that lifted the gutter off the rig, and flew the canoes off the vehicle at speed. I suspect there were some rust issues involved, but it’s still something I no longer do. There are better options...

Plywood shell/skin. Seal- spar urethane both sides or just one?

That depends on your skill with epoxy and glass. In the boating world, a sealing coat of epoxy is often used prior to laying the glass. Check out the Gougeon Brothers book on boat construction.

Best hoses and connectors for plumbing a water system?

Dan, PEX is great, but the fittings and clamps are the potential weak points. Avoid cheap plastic fittings and crimping style clamps. I’m not a fan of Shark Bite connectors for any RV.

Are there no side by sides discussed here?

I suspect most people aren’t willing to live in those places.

Are there no side by sides discussed here?

It’s not the SXSs that are the problem, it’s the turds that won’t follow the rules. These pismires exist in every group.

    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

We’ve had Subarus since the mid 80s. They aren’t perfect, but compared to other rigs we’ve simultaneously owned, they’re pretty damned good. I suspect there might have been two lemons that came with that rig.

Ram 1500 build ... should I even bother?

The gutter brackets bolt to the sides of the canopy. You can buy them at eTrailer, Rack Attack, etc.. If desired, you could even add stiffeners on the inside of the canopy to put any weight on the bed rail. There is no load on the top, it’s all on the sidewalls.

Ram 1500 build ... should I even bother?

I have had them on 3 different Super Duty fiber canopies with no problems since 2000. No cracks, no enlarged bolt holes, no issues. Three sets of brackets, three sets of Yakima towers with round bars. Craigslist regularly has the towers and bars for little $$.

Ram 1500 build ... should I even bother?

Figure about 100+ pounds for tubing and the plates that sit on the bed rails. Before doing that, I’d look at a gutter clamp setup with roof rack brackets and bars over the glass canopy.

Better jack for a long travel suspension an Overlanding vehicle?

The only thing I’d add to a Safe Jack is a piece of plywood to make a better base area in soft terrain. I carry it anyway to put under my BBQ to protect plastic tables from the heat.

5 weeks in the Intermountain/High Desert USA area

On the topic of rattlesnakes… I have a pointer, and have taken the dog through snake aversion training several times. It isn’t perfect, but she doesn’t want anything to do with a snake. Nice photos! Hopefully your husband has a complete recovery from his cancer.
