Resources for complete beginners? S-250 build-out

That’s a very decent price. Make sure you know the laws about registration and if you need a title. Some people don’t pay the extra $ to get a title transfer on trailers. I rarely get titles for my trailers off auction since I can “farm use” them and claim 4000k gross weight. Take some axle...

Resources for complete beginners? S-250 build-out

Yeah, that’s a bit small. The 1101’s May start at $500, but they rarely ever go for less that $1500 ($1800 total). If they do, they are in Guam or Hawaii.

Resources for complete beginners? S-250 build-out

FB marketplace, Craigslist are good. eBay seems to be overpriced. IronPlanet auctions have been pretty good, but prices are way up. Add 20% (I think?) to the sale price for anything sold there. They have been going for $2000-$3000 total price there. $2500 for a good one in the private market is...

Resources for complete beginners? S-250 build-out

We never tried to keep it warm, so it gets cold, pretty quickly, especially with 7 single pane windows. But, walls are insulated with 1.5” of foam, so I don’t think it would take much to keep the temperature at a comfortable level. There is a guy on IG who has a very similar looking box in his...

Resources for complete beginners? S-250 build-out

The pics are not great, they were just an “in process” set of pics to share w my nephew. The cardboard shims inside were temporary while the caulking cured on the outside. They were removed and the inside was caulked. Be sure to get the correct trim kit thickness. I think it’s 1.5”? If not...

Resources for complete beginners? S-250 build-out

The S-250 is a great shelter I have 3 of them. I turned one into a camper (ok, actually it was a hunting blind that you could take camping.) It’s mounted in a M1101 trailer, the straps on the front were replaced with stainless cables and aluminum turnbuckles. Looks much nicer than the straps...

Military surplus trailer auction sticker shock!

You might look for a 101A2. They weigh less, have a galvanized tub that is incredibly strong and they are narrower than an 1101 and longer. I bought 4 of them and sold 2 for $1500 each. You can probably find one out there for this price (+/-). You can’t swap hubs out on these trailers bc the...

Military surplus trailer auction sticker shock!

It’s kind of hard to put those two together in the same class. The 1101/1102’s are comparing a McLaren to Kia. I’ll grant the $900 trailer is best for certain applications, but the 1101’s have their place. Do you need it? Maybe not, but the resale value, Rustproof, bomb-proof, sheer toughness...

    S-250 shelter

Yeah, they are nifty! Walls are 1.5” thick with foam insulation and aluminum skin, inside and out. They don’t weigh too much, under 800 lbs. The trailer is also aluminum on a galvanized frame. Tough as nails too. My opinion is that they are the coolest military trailer around. Only a smidge...

    S-250 shelter

I painted the inside sage/grey. a $9 can of Home Depot oops paint. The trailer is an M1101. I believe these shelters were designed to fit in this trailer. I have a lot of the components to finish it out, but at the moment, I don’t believe they are necessary for a blind. I have 200 watts of...

    S-250 shelter

A few years ago I bought a military S-250 shelter. It was in excellent shape and had nothing mounted inside. No holes, just bare. the intention was dual purpose deer blind that would also double as a camper when needed. I have been using it as storage, until my nephew wanted to use it as a...

My 101A2, from start to 98% done

Yeah, I wound up buying 4 of them. Sold two and kept two. They are just too darn handy to get rid of. Plus, they aren’t making any more. The last few A1’s that went through auction sold for $1650-$2700 after all fees were added in.

My 101A2, from start to 98% done

Yep. I posted this whole thread before I figured out the brake issue. I was already $250 into it, might as well throw more money at it, right?

My 101A2, from start to 98% done

No, I had the exact same issue. I didn’t realize the drums wouldn’t work. I just ordered a replacement axle with proper drums for mine because the spindle size on the original is for a 9k axle. So, the only replacement brake drum that fits it are over $500 each. So, I did what everyone else...

    M101A1 Axle

I also ordered an axle for mine. 5200 lb, 65” to run HWMVV wheels now, and to allow for widening the wheelwell in the future while switching to a different wheel.

Need help with brake line work

That’s a good idea. Ditch the boat, go to the auto parts store that has a sign that says “no working on cars in the parking lot.“ Park trailer beside the dude working on his car and fix it there.

    Trailer Frame Feedback Request

As for a handle, if you have a torch, get a piece of 1” ID pipe, put it in a vice and heat up a 12” piece of 3/8 cold rolled rod at the 3” mark. Stick it in the pipe and bend it to 90 degrees. (Let it cool) then do the other side at 3”. There is a handle. Weld it to the side of your frame...

    Trailer Frame Feedback Request

.250 wall 2x2 is about 5 1/2 lbs per foot, if I remember correctly. In this application I can’t see how it significantly strengthens anything. Your trailer weight rests on the side of the frame where your springs attach and at the hitch. Your weak spot is the point where the box meets the...

My 101A2, from start to 98% done

Took the trailer out for a test run, working on the brakes, and the hitch worked great. The only time there was Any noise was on hard braking, but that’s to be expected since you have two hitch pins with a little bit of play in each one. The truck receiver and the trailer receiver. Way better...
