Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD build thread

Thanks for reading. One of the main reasons I decided to start this thread was to show people that these are more capable than they get credit for. Unfortunately the EPA cracked down on green diesel engineering’s tune before I decided to buy one. I guess I missed out on that product. Let me know...

After that, we went and did one of the moderate trails called Fins and Things. It was obviously a walk in the park for the WK. The Lexus did great too. We went very slowly since my buddy doesn't know how to read a line yet, but we would talk through obstacles and I'd spot him. I have a really...

Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD build thread

I’ve done a couple trips in the last month or so. Here’s a quick recap. The first trip was just south of Quartzsite AZ. Its mid point between my new home and a childhood friends home so I’ll probably make this a normal spot. There’s a ton of space to do some light off-roading and the the whole...

Youtuber presents DIY 270 Awning videos.

He did a great job on it. I already have a 270 awning, but mine isn't stand alone like that. Maybe I'll steal some of his ideas in the future.

I started having a knock in the front end before I left WA. This is a typical WK issue where the bushings that attach the front diff to the frame wear out. I got some new bushings and had the opportunity to fix it this weekend. You need a ball joint press and an air hammer with a few attachments...

That may be true. I haven't owned a wk2 so I couldn't say. I can say that I've liked every other Grand Cherokee I've owned.

Now I get what you mean as far as performance goes. I did stiffen up my suspension after adding all of the weight to jeep, so you may have to do similar upgrades once you add a winch. In my case, the back seemed to wander more than the front (the tent and spare tire carrier are probably to...

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK (2005-2010) as ExPo vehicle

I have a CRD WK that use as an expo vehicle. It’s a great platform and I’m glad to see others are building them too. Here’s a pic of mine:

WH(WK) Expo to Iceland with family August 2013

Looks like this was an awesome trip! It’s also a much longer adventure than I’ve ever done. I’m really impressed with the planning and preparation that went into it.

I don’t have an actual number, but the Jeep starts to heat up under a constant load in over 100F. I’m calling it an airflow issue for the intercooler because it’s 60% blocked by the winch/mount and temps drop as soon as I let off. Summer temps are gone so I won’t be able to replicate the issue...

Does the WK2 retain a low range/quadradrive2? I test drove a 2011 that didn’t have a low range, or I couldn’t figure out how it worked. As far as drawer systems go, I don’t think I’d put one in this Jeep. I’m constantly changing my set up and they add a lot of weight. They’re fun to build if...

Sounds like you had some fun adventures! Are they documented on this forum anywhere?

Thats a great question. I never had an issue in Washington, but my intake temps got a little ridiculous when I got to Phoenix. I haven’t hurt anything yet, but I plan on relocating my intercooler for better airflow before next summer.

Thanks! I see you’re enjoying a WK as well. These things are so much more capable than they get credit for.

    Awning verses an ez up

While I don’t use my awning all that much, I’d rather have the room in my truck for other things. My vote would be awning that you don’t have to lug around over a bulky EZ-up.

    Beerdy's 2001 Suburban for a family of 6

Looks like a fun build. I thought about a suburban before building my latest Jeep. I don’t have 6 people so the build would have been closer to what suboverland does. I think sliders are a pretty good way to start testing your fab skills. If they hold up, you’ll feel confident building things...
