LATEST PROJECT - Truck Drawers/Sleeping Platform

***FOR SALE!*** I've had many offers to buy these drawers over the years - and now is your chance! As my wife an I look to our next adventure vehicle, we have decided to part with this drawer system. It has treated us incredibly well for years and I hope we can find a happy new owner for them...

I am still planning to install a second/auxiliary battery system and will likely look into solar options at that time.

The utilitracks are standard equipment in the Nissan Frontier. Not sure where to find them otherwise. Good luck with your build!

Impressive build! The recess for your tool bag is a great solution.

LATEST PROJECT - Truck Drawers/Sleeping Platform

I have had HUNDREDS of pounds in the drawers without issue. A spare tire tray wouldn't present any issue at all.

LATEST PROJECT - Truck Drawers/Sleeping Platform

It was originally 1/8" per side, which was way too sloppy. I immediately added a 1/16" spacer to tighten things up. That is the white strip that is shown in a few of the shots. If I was to build it again today, I would only allow 1/32" per side. But that means that your margin for error in...

LATEST PROJECT - Truck Drawers/Sleeping Platform

Hmm ... What would I change exactly? Not much. Although I am very pleased with the outcome of the project, my skills have advanced over time and I have access to better machinery now. There are simple joinery revisions that I would make. Not that they would be any stronger, but a bit more...

You won't be able to find another. That is a fully custom piece that I fabricated for this build.

Every vehicle and every driver has constraints and/or limitations. I built out our truck for how my wife and I like to travel. Your tastes may vary drastically from ours. I have no experience with Ford Explorers. Good luck and have fun!

My father found an auxiliary pump in a Nissan Armada or something ... I am not positive what vehicle it came from. Simple Bosch brand pump added into the coolant circuit. Works just fine! I am still hunting a small electrical gremlin in the truck somewhere though. It seems there is always...

Great to hear from you! I am now a cabinet-maker by trade, though I was not when this build was completed. There is definitely some room for improvements now that Ive learned a few things. I have a LEER 100XQ canopy. Headroom is just over 26" inside. The opening is just about 22.5". It is good...

There are no plans available. Every truck has subtle differences which would effect the design. Feel free to post any questions that you may have and myself, or other members of this forum will point you in the right direction. -=Doug

LATEST PROJECT - Truck Drawers/Sleeping Platform

I was apprehensive to run extremely hot engine coolant through pex. I have not experienced any issues with the copper fittings. Normal heater hose was run from the engine to the box. I would not hesitate to run the fresh water via pex, but didn't own a pex crimper at the time. The flexible water...

LATEST PROJECT - Truck Drawers/Sleeping Platform

The idea of using the tank to hold hot water was thrown around briefly, but the reality is that we need cold water far more frequently than hot water. The system is still holding up well but we still need to implement the new auxiliary pump for the coolant loop.
