    6x6 > 4x4?

Toying with the idea of making a 6x6. If you guys could turn your 4x4 into a 6x6 would you? Pros- better breakover angle better braking more flotation Cons- MPG decrease more parts to break I must be missing something as far as cons because if 6x6 was so great than why would not every larger...

    transssions

The 727 can be fitted with a lot of the guts from the 48RE (which was rated for 800 ft/lbs). The 47/48 series have funky cummins/V10 bellhousing and nobody makes a separate bellhousing or case for them.

    Why Should I Regear?

Went from 3.55 to 6.72 gears and it was a whole new world both in terms of top speed and offroading lol.

    transssions

No experience with them offroading, but some fun tidbits from the diesel drag/puller world about both 727 family and the Allison 1000. It's not offroading but they put their trucks through a lot more abuse than we do... One of the fastest Duramaxes in the world got tired of killing multiple...

Auxiliary trans cooler, thermal bypasses and such.

There are a lot of variables between vehicles, but on my truck (yes, a Dodge) I'm only using a engine mounted water cooler for the trans. It's a water to trans heat exchanger mounted on the side of the block. The temps never go past 120-125 (PAN temp) on the road, but will reach 180 after more...

    1990 dodge D350 Cummins Build

Your 727 can built very stout, though wanting an O/D or more gears with a diesel is understandable. If you are set on doing a trans swap and need to do a 4x4 conversion get a medium duty fuller 5,6 or even 8 speed and be done with it. Nice to see a 1st gen Cummins in any case and with only 80k...

how to bulletproof a Ford 6.0 diesel

    The DT360 + Ford Body + 6.0 ZF-650 transmission would make a great combo.

You'll be fine with stock powers level with either transmission. If you start making big power the G56 has been known to kill itself. The best light truck manual is the ZF-650 from the Ford 6.0 Superduty. It has a center main shaft support and a pump to cool the whole thing AT style. Though...

Lets see some full size pictures...

hoov100, I trust an older stock vehicle for trips off the beaten path far more than anything brand new these days. Nice Jeep btw! There's also a certain amount of pride in keeping and preserving old iron. Not too mention it's a environmentally friendly way to slap so-called environmentalist that...

    Dewalt Tough System cases

Great cases. just not really designed inside for auto motive tools. You have to get creative with organizing inside. Left mine several times in and inch or so of water and mud over night without issues.

Mine again. Trying to stay motivated lately to finish it. Has a Dana60 with long arm coilspring upfront that are going for some leafs and a matching Rockwell.

A Hummer H3 built for everything.

So I have to be honest...I saw the first page and all the metalwork being done and thought it would end being sold off before it was finished. I then went to the last page and saw how amazing it turned out. It inspires me to stick through and finish my own project instead of jumping ship...

Toyo also makes stuff for 17". I'm sure other brands do to. If want MPT XL/XZL, etc type tires you can either go down a size to a 16" or up to a 20". 16" wheels can be iffy on a 2nd gen RAM on the front due to caliper clearance issues.

    Critique my first aid kits

I wouldn't bother with the antibiotic ointment, only really useful for treating otitis externa (swimmer's ear). And that can be dangerous as it's ototoxic if the tympanic membrane is ruptured. Forget the ET tubes unless you like smashing teeth, and get some tourniquets. An ambu bag would be...

    AED for expedition use?

Agreed. AEDs are great but you need ACLS as well, and even under ideal conditions ACLS is less than 15% effective, and that is a very generous number.

Showers and Hygiene- How often? With what water?

I've gone at least 2 weeks without showering, maybe 3-4 in Central Asia. No fresh clothes either, just had to knead my socks when they would get too crunchy from the dried sweat.
