Awning Owners: Driver's Side Mount or Passenger's Side Mount? Logic? Why?

My RTT overlaps my awning enough to prevent that on both my truck and my trailer. However on my truck it only overlaps 4 of the 8 feet so water still trickles down the truck. Its not an issue for me really, nothing a small tarp or other waterproof material cant solve.

    Tepui Tent RTT

Yeah I cant remember where I read that but it was definitey a user review that recommended it, not tepui itself. I was a bit concerned when my tent leaked the first trip but then I remembered reading the thing about misting the tent to expand the thread and it eased my mind haha Never happened...

    Tepui Tent RTT

Mine did this the first trip out (in a torrential rain storm) I've read somewhere (cant remember) that the thread used for the stitching needs to get moist to swell up and completely plug the holes the needle made, and because of this its actually recommended to mist you tent with a hose before...

    2001 Ford Ranger Build Thread

Okay got another update! Ordered an RCI front skid plate a while ago and installed it a week or so ago. Protects the very exposed radiator so it's giving me some peace of mind on the trail.

Me too! Haha Excited to get some good footage of my suspension and what not on a trail instead of just going over a speed bump haha

    2001 Ford Ranger Build Thread

Been a hell of a long time since I've posted any updates... Anyways I got all my front end parts in over a few days, not many pictures but here is what I got. ^ The real work begins ^ Found out why my hub sounded like a hurricane... ^ Pickle fork, heat, and the weight of the truck made...

    Mini popup

RTT's on trailers is the best way to go imo. Drop off the trailer at base camp and go out exploring from there. When not camping keep the RTT on the trailer and use the money you save in gas to go on more trips haha

Mounting a RTT to a standard model truck cap

Id highly recommend it over standard cross bars. Very happy with the setup, hasn't given me any issues yet!

    RTT's, trailers and Campgrounds

Booking provincial campgrounds in British Columbia I usually book longer sites because the provincial booking system asks if you're in a trailer and if you meed hookups. I just describe my set up when phoning campgrounds as a small tent trailer with no hookups. 95% of the time they put me in a...

    RTTs on trailers

Here is my experience. If you have the RTT opening off the rear (perpendicular to the axle) you will need stabilizing jacks on the rear of the trailer. On a 3 week trip 2 summer ago my girlfriend and myself were laying on the ladder side of the tent planning our route and stops for the next...

Awning Owners: Driver's Side Mount or Passenger's Side Mount? Logic? Why?

Drivers side strictly for better visibility so I dont damage it. On my trailer it defaults to the passanger side but can be switched around quickly to facilitate different camp spots.

    2001 Ford Ranger Build Thread

Not gonna be able to do all this work for a couple of weeks but I finally have all my parts! Excited to put everything in! On a side note I replaced my timing chain tensioners this past week, in the process my thermostat housing broke, the new one didnt use the same sensors that my old one...

    turning it sideways

When i put my tent on my truck i have it open over the tailgate I prefer it that way as it gives me shelter when accessing my trucks bed and it leaves enough room on my roof for 2 kayaks.

Rooftop Tents and Toppers - Experiences and Suggestions

For whats its worth I spend a weekend with my tent on my base model cap and I hardly slept... I kept hearing creaking while trying to sleep and was just waiting to fall through the canopy haha After that trip i went out and sourced this rack out for $250 and haven't had any issues since...

Rooftop Tents and Toppers - Experiences and Suggestions

Yes most likely tons more! Think about having 500lbs on the roof and hitting a speed bump going 30km/hr. The amount of force probably easily doubles i bet, i dont know the science but I do know the basic concepts of dynamic vs. Static loads. The manufacturer most likely wont give you a static...

Rooftop Tents and Toppers - Experiences and Suggestions

I'd argue much less than 50/50. The ladder side of the tent is supported at two points, the ladder, and the hinge. If you sat in thr very center of the ladder side the hinge and the ladder would equally take 100% of your weight, so 50/50. The closer you move to the hinge the more weight the...

    My 01 Ranger build

This would probably be a better route if you plan on lifting it at the same time. Most likely save you both time and money! I ended up lifting mine about 3 or so months after I did the new leafs, wasnt planning on lifting that soon but things changed haha Not sure how much lift you should...
