    New ARB fridge spring 2017

This .pdf from ARB makes it look like it's just the 63 qt. www.arbusa.com/Uploads/PDF/newProductAdvice/2016/Weatherproof_fridge.pdf Some of the features are a bit more than I'd need ("security PIN code," etc.), but being able to keep it outside and not worry about water getting into the...

Plastic vs. Metal Body Fridge/Freezer (i.e. ARB vs Edgestar Construction)

I have a plastic bodied Dometic/Waeco. No particular problems with it, although perhaps one slight negative is that because "they can" with plastic, the sides and top are slightly rounded. I'd like to add some rigid insulation (extruded polystyrene) to the outside, and straight sides would...

    Overland Sprinter Build

Seems like that should be against physics, doesn't it? And yet it keeps happening  Sorry to ask you yet another Blum question, but that assist bar looks very interesting and I didn't see it when Googling "Blum assist bar." Do you have a part number I could check into? Thanks...

    Overland Sprinter Build

Thanks for the info. I hadn't realized that only one of the set was "powered." So as you say a second active one could be an ace in the hole if needed. My doors are around 12" tall and 24" long - reasonably but not super light (sort of shaker style with 3/4" maple rails/stiles and 1/4" ply...

    Overland Sprinter Build

Nice build! Thanks for sharing all the details. Can I ask how the Blum hinges are doing? I mean the ones that incorporate the "hold the door up" mechanisms in the sides. I have some upper cabinet doors that use the typical concealed hinges plus separate struts to hold them up. Am doing some...

Ford Transit Connect extra battery, solar, etc. questions

Those sorts of draws are way over what I take from my system, so I can't really say. Adding the charging of the engine or plugging in introduces a factor that I don't count on. I run my computer quite a bit, and refrigerator 24/7, but it's all on a smaller scale and DC powered. I use only...

Ford Transit Connect extra battery, solar, etc. questions

Just as a side note, a 1200watt inverter will draw around 100 amps DC (divide watts by voltage) if you are using its capacity (actually a bit more due to inefficiency). That's a *really* hefty draw unless you have a large house battery bank (I'm not speaking of if you are plugged in or...

How is everyone powering their portable fridges?

Ah, good point. I wasn't thinking along those lines, but now that you mention it, I'm sure many folks have one of these refrigerators hooked up to the start battery. I don't even know how low the start battery voltage can go and still start the vehicle, but apparently the LVD works for that.

How is everyone powering their portable fridges?

I see what you are saying now. I've never had my fridge cut out, but I don't expect to ever have it do that because I tend to keep my batteries at around 12.5v or higher, and I'm pretty fanatical about voltage drop anyway. I'd turn off the fridge or charge the batteries before it ever reached...

    Wheel chock

I've tried a few different purchased chocks. For my use, I've settled on the black rubber ones in the post just above this one. They are the ones I trust when I'm chocking my rig at a launch ramp (and prefer to only launch the boat not the van too!). BUT they have some distinct downsides...

OK to power isolator during cranking? (Dual Batteries)

One side note is that I wonder if some of the huge amperage figures might be inrush current figures. Those don't typically last long enough to affect a fuse. I'm sure the inrush current on my Ford V10 is probably quite a bit higher than 200 amps, but the starter will happily not blow a 200 amp...

How is everyone powering their portable fridges?

I'm not sure I understand your post here. I have my fridge wired for as little voltage drop as possible, because I've read that the Danfoss compressor electronics will live a lot longer if they don't have to suffer voltage drop. But are you saying that the refrigerator's low voltage cutoff...

How to size dual battery supply ckt?

I'm just thinking out loud here, because - as mentioned above - I don't know for sure. But since no-one else has said for certain yet... I have AGM batteries. This is for a number of reasons that make sense for my rig, but the reason I mention it is that of course I've read up on them, and...

How to size dual battery supply ckt?

Well with a 2-3' run you can use dental floss :D I wish I had such a short run! Also sorry that it looks like I basically re-stated what you already knew, and didn't answer your question. Geez. Have you by any chance asked on the Ford Transit USA forum? Not to send you away but it sounds...

How is everyone powering their portable fridges?

I've wondered the same thing. I mean, even 11.8 is basically saying "you've just ruined your battery - figured you might want to know." For my house battery 11.8 is is around 75% discharged. Ouch. 11.6 is 100% discharged (buh-bye), and 10.1? Can you be 115% discharged? ;) Maybe the average...

How to size dual battery supply ckt?

Okay, now I understand better. Thanks for the detail. So, if you are not planning to jump start, you immediately have no need to account for the big amperage pull of the starter. Thus you have the amps out from the alternator going "back" to the house, and that's all you really need to...

How to size dual battery supply ckt?

When I size that sort of wire, I sort of "circle around" through the various requirements until I arrive at the correct wire size. One is how much current (amps) can my charging sources output, and the other is how much voltage drop do I want (or not want, really) (I don't care whether my...

How is everyone powering their portable fridges?

Maybe it's because my background is boats, but I'm used to the starting battery being "sacred," and reserved for starting only. I suppose I might fudge a bit with a land vehicle, especially if it had a clutch (pop start) and/or I had a couple of jump packs (and wasn't going to be anyplace too...

How is everyone powering their portable fridges?

I don't know what AGM's those three companies have installed, but one brand that is generally well thought of is Lifeline and their specifications say the following for charge state (SOC) of their 12-volt battery at open circuit voltage (resting for a minimum of four hours with no charging or...

white UV stable caulk that tools well?

I was going to mention 3M4000, but was also going to say that I have never tried tooling it, because on boats all the bedding (caulking) compound goes under the flange of whatever is being bedded. Reason is that stuff on top doesn't do anything for the watertightness (either the under-flange...
