No start / shaking gauges 2006 Xterra

As one of the "faulty battery" suggesters earlier in the thread, thank you for the update. I have some 18650 cells scavenged from a laptop sitting on my desk. I can put three of them in series and the voltage reads over 12V. But that doesn't mean it can start a car. Our '09 Xterra has an...

No start / shaking gauges 2006 Xterra

I know you said battery was new, but could it be faulty? I’ve had the twerking gauges in our xterra before and it was from an old weak battery.

    **SOLD**2018 Lexus GX460 fully outfitted. **

Oh wow pretty sure I saw this driving in Murray on my way home from work tonight. Either that or there’s another similar one around. Sweet looking truck!

    IPad, iPhone and InReach

Unfortunately not true. iPads only have a GPS chip if they are a Wi-Fi + Cellular model. Wi-Fi only iPad models do not have a GPS chip, and won't work for off grid stand alone navigation.

    IPad, iPhone and InReach

I have an inReach Mini primarily as an SOS device too, I didn't realize it could pair with an iPad, that's cool. For navigation we use Gaia on a cellular capable iPad Mini 4. We use the iPad and the inReach for different things, so IME it's nice having the GPS functionality built into the...

New Garmin inReach “Mini 2” Satellite Communicator

That makes sense. This is the only inReach device we own and for how I have used it, it has worked well in most terrain. For me it's more of a CYA when solo hiking / backpacking and a means to check in with my wife to let her know all is well. We also use it in the vehicle and will send a...

New Garmin inReach “Mini 2” Satellite Communicator

Looks like Garmin posted a video going over the new features and changes to the Mini 2, and they now have it listed on their site. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/765374 Not compelling enough for me to upgrade, but the longer battery life would be nice. I need to look into the differences...

    How strong is unistrut?

I have sourced most of mine for the roof rack projects from McMaster Carr. https://www.mcmaster.com/strut-channel/ When I last purchased a 6'8" stick of the low profile, solid, black powder coated in February of 2020 it was $24.00.... currently $74.40.

    How strong is unistrut?

It’s worked great for my purposes but admittedly they’re shorter spans and lighter loads than a RTT. In my application the appeal of it is the ability to make it customizable and bolt on whatever you need for a given trip. For something more permanently mounted just square or round tubing...

New Garmin inReach “Mini 2” Satellite Communicator

@Bill Ruttan thanks for posting. You might consider adding the full product name (Garmin Inreach Mini 2) to the thread title. Here's the video that Bill is referring to: Physically, apart from the USB-C power port vs micro USB, it looks pretty much identical to the Inreach Mini. The...

    3D printed Locker latch guard

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I have had a few things that others designed printed at the library and it's a bit frustrating because there's a long lead time and the quality has been all over the place. I think it's been the printer operator and maybe settings they've used that has...

    3D printed Locker latch guard

Nice! This is maybe something for another discussion, but if someone wanted to get into 3D printing to be able to make small problem solving projects like this, where should they start?

    Xterra values…

Just to clarify to the OP, it's not a transmission problem... it's a transmission cooler in the radiator failing problem. And, as long as it hasn't happened, is easily prevented by just replacing the radiator, a <$200 fix.

    Xterra values…

Compared to the Toyota tax, yes they're not *as* crazy, but please tell me where you're finding dime a dozen Xterras so that I may buy some and resell them. I am not seeing what you're seeing with pricing... they are much higher than a couple years ago, and I've been casually watching prices on...

    Tool Overkill?

In my experience adjustable wrenches suck and are much more likely to round off a fastener if you can even get them into the place you need them. Last resort desperation tools for me.

    WTB: Inreach Mini

Last year in November some retailers had them for $100 off, maybe wait to see if they have a similar offer in the near future. IIRC Costco, REI, Cabelas had it. I got mine at REI for $50 after applying dividends. It’s the monthly subscription that gets ya anyway.

Garmin inReach SOS Outage on 25OCT2021

How common are these outages? Just curious since I have an inreach that’s been handy for sharing location with family and friends. I hope to never need the SOS function!
