Truck prep for the Dempster Highway

At the moment, u can only travel as far as the nwt border IF the yukon lets u in. The road is in fair shape, and as long as ur tires are in very good shape, and pack a decent spare or 2, u will be fine. Gas and diesel are available at the dempster crnr, as long as u have a credit card. Next gas...

    Trailer vs. Roof

I am very curious about this. More so on the mpg side. Packing the weight on/in the vehicle will net u better economy. With a trailer u do have the option of leaving it at a campsite versus camp teardown. I'm planning a lengthy trip to the bottom of the planet and mpg is a definite concern, plus...

Truck prep for the Dempster Highway

Your fuel economy WILL suffer as it is all gravel. Generaly, most vehicles slow rite down so as not to throw rocks thru each others windshield. There are quite a few pull outs and gravel pits along the way that 1 could camp out at but park up wind from hiway as u will get dusted out. I will...

    Differential question.

I believe it is a 70 series truck. I dont have much to go on either as differential is sitting on a pallet outside a tire shop. Guy that owned said it was from a toyota truck. I did see 2 yota trucks w/built on campers from europe that had same lug bolt pattern.

Block heaters? Battery warmers? Oil pan heaters?

A recirculating style block heater coupled with an oil pan heater is best. I have used this system on my personal vehicles as well as semi-truks. I only need to have my heaters on for 1.5- 2 hrs even at -40. If u do decide to run them all nite, u will start ur vehicle and b at operating temp.

    Overland F-150, Tacoma or?

I too am having same dilemma. I have owned a couple import suv's, and am in the market for a truck. Really liked the size of my suv's and their trail capabilities. A taco, or kota i think would be good choices.(the kota would need more work to make it a good trail machine. Ie, SAS,) but their...

    nissan and 35's

I personally haven't driven it yet. the guy who owns it says it's definitely slower even though he re-geared it .( I don't know yet what he re-geared to. Nissan v 6's aren't exactly powerhouses) I'm thinking that if I can get it cheaply enough, i would re-gear it. I'm playing phone tag with this...

    nissan and 35's

Hey all. I'm looking at a hardbody p/u. wondering how well the front diff would hold up to 35" tires. truck is already lifted and fitted with these tires. I don't bash or rat my vehicles. I've owned a few troopers and a coupla montero's, and ran 35's on them with mild up grades.(93 trooper got...
