How many milliseconds is too many milliseconds?

Laptops will be fine, a desktop is hit and miss and I don't think anyone could tell you for sure. If you do the math I think it might be close. A 60 hertz sine wave transitions from power to no power about every 7 milliseconds. Most have a switching power supply that contains at least some...

Well the news is out so here's the build: Expedition Portal So-Cal Teardrop

I know travel isn't that important on a trailer, but how much do you think you now have? PS, Looks real nice.

    Stabilizer jack options

Just a thought... I use my high-lift jack to ease the un-level-ness and the spring bounce of my teardrop only when it is hooked to the vehicle. It wont work for a major leveling issues but to make so the soda wont slide off or have a pile up on one side while sleeping it works fine. 1 tool many...

    Trailer lights questons

No biggie, I would suspect that somewhere when the battery charger and the 7 pin were added there was a miss wire. Were things good before the 7 pin? Or after the batt charger install? Try... Most likely ***Possibly double check the wiring of the battery Toad Charger. Test the voltage at...

    Trailer lights questons

Likely not enough information. A bad ground would leave the tow bright and the trailer dull in most cases. You should find a volt meter and see how far the voltages are dropping and what king of amps you are pulling to light the trailer. You should not be pulling more than 5 ish amps for just...

Skersfan's New Shuttle Pod Trailer Build...

Took some photos today of the hatch when I opened it to check on the charge of the battery... The changes I made were a pair of spice/soap racks, moved the back wall behind the sink back about 6 inches to accommodate the cooking utensils in the tackle box, moved the power control board from...

Skersfan's New Shuttle Pod Trailer Build...

I have traveled locally with the bikes on blacktop as shown and it works, but it looks like too much leverage for the system for long hauls or any off road. I think I would add a strap more to assist in the side to side torque for any real distant travels with the bikes. SKersfan added new...

Skersfan's New Shuttle Pod Trailer Build...

The original found a new home in KC. We did some of the KAT on the way to Overland Expo East and a handful of Midwest camping after we dragged it over a mountain pass on the way back from Ouray. I made some changes and additions to the back and inside this summer to add some creature comforts...

Camper heating options/thoughts with dual batteries as fuel?

I've been kicking around the idea of using the hot water tank to heat a transmission cooler to heat a teardrop. So far it seemed pretty simple with a one way valve, small 12v pump and a computer fan. It sounds like you were further into the design, what did you run into that turned you away?

    Trailer Articulation Minimum

That distance looks better. The ability to jackknife the trailer is important on a trail. The longer tongue will tow better and back much easier. Too long will reduce clearance and cause the wheels not to track as close to the tow vehicles on turns. The ball is good and will work for gravel...

    Trailer Articulation Minimum

My 2c... Not enough room. To me it looks like you are holding the insert to the vehicle receiver. If so the photo would indicate you only would have 5 degrees of V travel before your bumper will hit the tire. Cuoffroad is right an extension, remove the tire or take a different picture to better...

oops missed it by 1/2 " on trailer tires

What kind of gas mileage do you get? What kind of trails/roads are you most likely to explore? The larger tires will smooth it out as long as the axles/bearings can handle the additional stresses of the additional unsprung weight. It looks great.

Well the news is out so here's the build: Expedition Portal So-Cal Teardrop

On our tear we have a strip of white leds for the main light and just 2 single small yellow for a night light that is used to find glasses and shoes for a 3 am wander. Chris, will the monitor always be lit? It might be pretty bright inside the cabin, just a thought. That is a very cool trailer...

Awning, pop-up canopy, tents, or plain ole tarps for off-road/camping? Preferences?

We have 2 Foxwings and a Kelty Noah tarp for our teardrop. I like the tarp in bad weather and for privacy. The Foxwing is preferred where it it is calm with a light rain or the hot sun.

    Too much brake?

The electrical brake adjuster will prevent any over braking. I doubt that you can have too much if you use just a controlled percent of the braking. With the big tires that we are putting on I would say the 10 inch drum may not be enough. I check them at each camp and adjust them every 1000...

    Shower floor in the field?

We have a teardrop so a step-stool was a requirement to work in the kitchen. We got a "Camco 43676 Adjustable Height Aluminum Platform Step" from amazon so we use it in the shower. In the tall grass we put the feet down, in the dirt we fold the feet up for the shower. I put a little chain wax...

    Collection of Trailer Builds

If you never leave dry asphalt then no, save the money. Even on a washboard gravel road they may save you from a crash. On real terrain they are a must for me.

    camping from a kayak

If you are planning a first river overnight-er or 3 then get a dry run at a local lake and camp next to the vehicle... Pack the kayak and paddle out on the lake for an hour or two to get use to the weight and loading. If all worked well, paddle back to the shore and camp like it was at a stop...
