    2004 Chevy Astro AWD "Astrid"

If you don't build cabinets, don't remove plastic and want just a comfortable bed + keep rear seat you can build something like this in a day. http://www.hoen.ca/things_i_have_built/camperized_van/ It worked for us for 6 month non-stop trip, but it's not very "cool" and certainly has it's...

    2004 Chevy Astro AWD "Astrid"

Also check out Herbie's rock-n-roll bed, I have almost 0 fabrication skills and place/tools to do it, but that is another good option for bed platform that can also be used as seat while on move (something our bed/couch doesn't provide)...

    2004 Chevy Astro AWD "Astrid"

It is a very simple setup as we don't have any experience in building anything, but it works. What supports the end of the bed when it is flat and what secures the bed in the couch position? It is supported by legs that are attached to the last piece of bed/couch (red arrows) and secured in...

    2004 Chevy Astro AWD "Astrid"

I got mine from sdtrucksprings.com - shipped them to US mailbox and drove down to pick them up. Unfortunately I didn't find many options locally.

    2004 Chevy Astro AWD "Astrid"

And just to add to last post - dimensions of bed platform where chosen that way to avoid smashing window when bed coverts into couch and still have comfortable couch. We used cardboard boxes to figure out dimensions, if we could build this anybody can, as we are very not the most skilled...

    2004 Chevy Astro AWD "Astrid"

I realized while ago I never posted dimensions of our bed/couch, so here you go. Bed is 2m long (~6.7ft), because I am 1.9m (~6.2-6.3ft) and prefer a good night sleep :) It consists of four portions, front is 50cm wide, front part that goes up is 60cm, Rear part that goes up is 50cm and rear...

    Two Latvians overlanding south

Thank you! We got Torsion bar delivered by friend who was coming from states. Otherwise it would have to be shipped from RockAuto directly to Mexico (shipping price and time wasn't to bad). Had a great time on road indeed. Now we are settled in Vancouver for indefinite time and trying to...

    Laptops for Overlanding Travels

I would look for something light with good battery life and preferably SSD (can be done as upgrade later) as it does make a difference in how fast computer works. For laptop I would look for one with Intel processor as they tend to have better battery life and performance. i5 preferably, i7...

    Storm: Another Astro Camper/Ski/Climb/Bike Van

We have 3.42 gears, with 225/75R16 BFG TA KO2 tires and sounds like it rides about the same. Heavy and bigger tires with 3.42 gearing certainly don't help acceleration :)

    Africa Twin low speed crash

Another crash at 7:46, but they had a blast with the bike at Krka Enduro Raid ;) P.S. Handguards that come from factory are usually decorative anyways. :)

This guy has done a great write up on how to install fantastic fan in Astro, we used it as guide and ours is installed in about the same spot: http://www.astrosafari.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8310 In our case it was positioned there because we didn't have space elsewhere, it was the only place...
