To Pop Up or not to Pop Up?

Why is this a question then? IMHO security in a camper is an illusion. Unless you have an armored camper they all are easy to gain entrance with a crowbar or claw. Get what you need to make your wife and kids feel secure.

    Insulating FWC

What I've done: I've used Foamular blocks cut to fit tight between hard wall and ceiling. Works well as insulation but is cumbersome to store and assemble. And you can't insulate the hard wall or the rear lift panel. I bought some polyester fiberfill quilts at thrift stores and made...

To Pop Up or not to Pop Up?

I just want to clarify a couple of things about wind profile: I have a hunting buddy who has a Northern Lite hard side on a 2022 Ram 2500 4X4 gas. I have a FWC Grandby on a 2012 Ram 2500 4X4 gas. We travel together to hunt once a year, so same route, same time, same speed, same conditions. I...

The CrowsWing Teardrop Finally Lands in Baja!

Yes, Thank you for taking us along. Baja is another place I probably won't make it to.

    Heating a small trailer

I winter camp out of a FWC Grandby in temperatures well below freezing. This is my 2¢: Non-vented heaters (Mr. Buddy, Olympian, et.al.) work IF: - the outside temps are not below ~ 20ºF, - and the outside relative humidity is low, - and you don't run the heater for more than 8 hours. The...

    Camper jack attachment durability

Why did manufacturers go away from the older tripod jack setup (Rieco-Titan, et.al)? They lifted from under the side wall frame vs. cantilevered off a vertical frame member.

    Wall-mounted vent fan options

I've seen a couple of vans with the back window replaced by a MaxxFan. Didn't talk to owner to see how it worked. I would e-mail MaxxFan and ask. I met a guy that removed the cover of his ceiling fan and installed a raised solar panel over it. Claimed no water intrusion.

    Best sturdy camp table?

I have a Lifetime 2' X 4' folding table. It has a pebbled surface, sort of non-slip. Bought at Wal-Mart. I carry 'Lego' leveling blocks that I can use to bring the table within 1/2" of level. I carry a bamboo cutting board to put hot pans/utensils on; stove is a two burner Coleman.

Another dead alternator on my 1999 Monty

My 2¢: Go on line to one of the good auto parts sites (RockAuto, Summit Racing, etc.) and find a list of new alternators. - Then - Order on line - or - Go to your favorite auto parts store and see if they can get one for you. It sucks to have a vehicle you don't trust and your time and...

Leveraging battery in trailer as dual battery setup

Unless you need a DC-DC charger I would go with a relay as llamalander described. Here is how I would solve this: At the truck battery, appropriately sized fuse #1 on + wire going to back of truck; wires sized to current and length (round trip). Relay in back of truck near refrigerator, fuse...

Why the big price difference between flatbed and slide-in??

I think you are confusing 'cost' with 'price'. Unless a manufacturer has screwed up, cost sets the floor for price. Price is set by demand, real or anticipated. On new products its a guess. In a free market price comes down to the seller trying to maximize profit (usually) or some other result...

    EV acceptance is peaking

With all the growing pains and additional infrastructure needed for EV's, I think hybrids make more sense. Let the early tech adopters sort the EV growing pains out. With Ford, Cadillac, Honda, Audi, Renalt, Mercedes, Ferrari, et.al supplying Formula 1 with hybrid systems starting in 2026 I...

    Solar Recommendations for FWC Grandby?

My camper is probably not a good example being 47 y.o. The roof sags but I doubt it is from the solar panels. I'd recommend going over to WandertheWest.com and ask your questions. There are a lot of guys that have put solar on FWC campers over there. I learned a lot from them.

    EV acceptance is peaking

This has been one of my arguments against the push to switch to EV's: our leaders are telling us to buy an expensive cart when there aren't enough horses to go around.

    EV acceptance is peaking

Could you link to any reports/studies that show that? There is so much cow poop being thrown around on the subject of EV's that it is hard to draw conclusions. In reality there just aren't enough EV's on the road to make any meaningful conclusions. EV's make up about 1% of the registered...

    Solar Recommendations for FWC Grandby?

This is how I set up my Grandby 10 years ago: 2 X 100W Renogy solar panels connected in parallel, 5 feet of 4AWG welding wire from roof to controller, Morningstar TriStar TS-45 PWM controller, 2 X 6V, 200AH GC2 batteries connected in series, 60A ANL fuses protecting controller and battery...

    EV acceptance is peaking

It's estimated that 10% to 15% of the population are early tech adopters. EV's haven't come close to saturating that market. It will be interesting to see if the problems people were having charging their EV's during the last cold snap will affect their desirability. Manufacturers have to...

    Design/Layout Feedback for a First-time Camper build

Some random thoughts: Being able to stand up is very important to me (74 y.o. male). My first impression is that your design is very claustrophobic. Can you and your partner stay in this for 24 hours without trying to kill each other? I find that having no cabinets up high opens a small...
