How Important Is Ramp Travel Index (RTI)?

For an adventure camping vehicle and especially a real overlanding vehicle RTI is completely for useless for anything other than Instagram. Of course Instagram seems to be the real focus of a lot of "overlanders" so YMMV.

    Laws Regarding Aggressive Animals

Im not aware of anywhere you can shoot a bear just because its causing damage to property such as trucks, campers, tents, coolers, etc. In bear country you are in its home and common sense says its on you to keep cooking, food, and attractive smells away from your vehicle and sleeping area...

    fire extinguisher recommendation requested

Very true. I bet you could hand most people a ten pounder and they would fail to extinguish an office cubicle garbage can fire. For many years I had to attend classroom plus hands on training every two years plus Ive had to use extinguishers, dirt, blankets, and clothing articles "in the...

Why not in USA? Australian Style Folding Camper Trailers - Front, Rear, Side folding - Hard floor, Soft Floor

Im don't mind sleeping under nothing but the stars in the worst of bear country. Just need to separate the sleeping and cooking/food storage areas.

Need Welding Advice - Concerned About Quality

Not a pro by any means so take this with a grain of salt. It kind of looks to me like maybe he tacked it using SMAW (stick aka arc welding). Of all the processes you can use for aluminum the only one worse is brazing. Better is MIG and TIG. Maybe he doesn't have the right machine and a spool...

    fire extinguisher recommendation requested

I probably extinguished half a dozen engine/fuel/rubber/grease/oil/electrical car fires before the age of 21. Extinguishers, blankets, jackets, dirt, etc. Seemed like no big deal and was just part of being a dumb hotrodder kid back then. Deciding beforehand to flee and let a small...

    fire extinguisher recommendation requested

Avoid ABC extinguishers and use BC instead. If it happens to be a small fire in the cab or under the hood and you save the vehicle the A component will get into electrical connections and completely wreck things. BC doesn't have that drawback.

Are Maxtrax MKII the best ? Get orange?

I dont know that color matters. Use a long colorful leash so you can find them buried in mud, snow, or sand.

    Steel vs Alumninium

I think this is correct. Then when mounting dissimilar metal components to the bolted aluminum frame use some kind if dielectric gasket material.

    Fishing apps?

I use onX Hunt because it shows land ownership. Pick a waterway then look for public lands, public access locations, timber company ownership, etc.

    Anyone fly fish in stillwater?

Chronomids, chronomid emergers, various drys, various streamers, muddlers, terrestrials, san juan worms, and many other patters all work well for trout on still water lakes at various times. Almost anything meaty will entice smallmouth and largemouth. If you happen to hit the right place, at...

    Let's see your LJ's!

Curry D44s front and rear, Curry Krawler tank, Genright longarms, 4.88 gears, cromoly shafts, locked Detroit in the rear and ARB in the front, SYE, tucked, full armor underneath. Its stripped down for the trail here but also has a hardtop. Looks more like a rock crawler than a mall crawler...

best, most recent, top of the line jump start / power pack?

I carried a Microstart XP1 for a couple of years and used it to start a 4.0 Jeep twice and to recharge various electronics around camp. Worked great, no complaints. Now I carry a Microstart XP10 for extra capacity and the XP1 is in my wife's car. So far have only used the XP10 to start a...

The airgun thread - lets see where this goes.

I would love to own a modern high power air rifle but not another .177 or even ,22. A .45 or .50 cal light/medium game rifle like a Seneca or AirForce. Lewis and Clark packed a .46 Girandoni across the NA continent over 200 years ago. As far as I know they didn't eventually chuck it into a...
