She loved the first one so much you replicated it! Nice Work. I'm down in Beckley and after going from XJ to JKU, i'm back looking for an XJ again. Prices are really climbing for rust free decent mileage. Unfortunately I don't have the time or fab skills to take on a rebuild like yours...
Definitely not JL pickups under there, but that first one certainly screams jeep and it may be the tarp, but the front grill does appear to have have the rumored "more angle/steamline" grill and windshield
edit: What is that above the axle?
edit 2: Electric motor for the rumored hybrid?
I upped my mall crawler game. Installed a metal mesh grill to protect my poor radiator condenser that took a major beating this winter and installed a Led light bar I had at the house left over from my XJ. If anyone thinks the headlights are bad on a JKU, just drive a original Cherokee and...
JKUR hard rock also has the winch ready bumper.
I must say I'm jealous of the rubicon. I picked up my sport with 3.73 and limited slip a couple of months ago. I love it but still can't stop thinking about a rubicon. Still on the fence on modifying this one or planning on trading it in in a...
I dream of a trip like this. Utah is definitely #1 on my short list for trips once kids are older (currently 3 and -1month). Great report! (and congrats)
Everything is relative right? I came from a 98 Cherokee with 3.5" of lift on 31s. I had to keep it floored and would constantly shift between 3rd and 4th to maintain 70mph up hills and mountains and even gently sloping. I had a good 1" of play left/right in the wheel before any steering...
I picked up a 2016 JKU to replace my 98 XJ a few days after this announcement. With Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge track record lately, I have VERY little faith in the first year, or 2 or even 3 of this new body style. I have a feeling we will be seeing a LOT of issues and recalls.
I don't know how far you may want to travel, but I just upgraded to a JKU and will be selling my XJ
I am located in Southern WV.
XJ is a 98 with 115k miles.
3.5" Rubicon express superride with the monotube upgrade
31x10.50 Goodyear Wrangler Authority with 3/4 tread
Frame and body are rust free...
I've seen several photos at the K. Tunnel. Been really wanting to make a trip up there.
(can't believe I haven't been anywhere since I got new tires, these are long gone)
^ my problem with these "tests" is exactly what you said. These trails are picked by jeep and really from watching the video I'm pretty sure any awd vehicle could of tackled that trail and even a fwd that you don't mind to bang up a bit.
The renegade looks ok, its biggest fault is its built on the fiat 500L platform. Jeeps quality and reliability has fallen off a cliff. As seen by the first fiatjeep cherokee. That thing has had issue after issue and failure after failure. I don't expect this to be much different.
It's too cold and 2' of snow outside. I dropped the XJ off at the local HS tech school to replace my radiator and power steering gear. I went through a jug and half of antifreeze in the last 2 weeks. I really need a garage.
As soon as it warms up I'm doing all the front u joints.
Wow. What a labor of love. With how often people go through vehicles, it is amazing reading through this 10 year build. Has given me a new respect for my progress. I'm only at 3 months of ownership of my XJ and have already lifted it and talk daily of wanting a jku. Your thread has changed...
Great videos! Its awesome to see someone in this region doing somethig like this.
I'm from Beckley, would love to see the route you took from pax to odd! I've done some riding between Pax and Cabin Creek. But never the opposite direction.
Also, if you plan any other travels in the region, i'd...
