    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

Got the Engel in today and started locating all the other odds and ends that I'll need. Definitely going to keep the gear and clutter to a minimum.

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

Camperizing prep: So, started playing with the interior configuration for where my wife will sleep and all the gear. Now, the soft, light bulky stuff will travel up top in the Thule carrier, I'm planning on having our clothes, firstaid kit, recovery, fridge, dry food, water and misc. gear...

Sewing Thread....A discussion on making your own adventure textile gear.

So, thats a high speed (5000spm), manufacturing, garment machine. While it's an industrial machine, and it most likely could punch through all that material, the challenge will be keeping it slow enough for slow detail work or from over running the seam. I've heard guys putting larger pulleys...

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

You know she's the girl for you when she'll go camping and rappelling off of the front of a Samurai in the middle of nowhere Moab! LOL Circa 2007!

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

Found a couple of shots from that trip. First is me balancing the RR on the Devils Backbone trail......one side drops off a cliff on the passenger side (maybe several hundred feet) and the driver side drops of a smaller 20-30 foot cliff. The second shot is a recovery due to the driver sliding...

    Provan Tiger Bengal Thread

Yeah, ours has some real "pin stripping" character now. It's always fun seeing the looks on remote campers face as we come through the trees on some Jeep trail looking for a campsite. It's like they've just seen a giant snow yeti pass by!

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

So true. I remember the first time I used all the lockers. I was on a trail run in a permitted area north Moab and after traversing the "Devils Backbone"(?) you then had to climb a multi step wall.....scared the crap out of me but, I locked it in and it walked right up the wall in idle....king...

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

So, next project was to figure out why my 4wd low wasn't engaging properly, meaning transfer case was in low and driving in low but, wasn't turning the front diff., so no 4wd low, just 2wd low. But, the 4wd high worked great. Of course the best way to test it was to drive it 2-3 foot snow and...

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

To be honest, I wouldn't feel right letting it go as a restoration/project truck, simply too much body rust. I'd recommend looking for a rust free one in the drier states. Sorry and goodluck!

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

Yes. All OEM still, solid running gear, new tires and with all the emissions. But, has mountain rust and a low end knock so, my plan was to keep it as a parts/support vehicle for the RR or since I have a fresh 2F long block, swap them out and build out a mountain rescue truck. Or, wash and wax...

    Provan Tiger Bengal Thread

Question: How do the crew cab (4 door) Tigers do off-road? I ask because I see alot of the CC Tiger conversions and wonder how the get around on the trails?

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

Next Step to prep.... Recycle/reuse the original RR gear platform. Pulled out of the "Storage/Parts Cruiser". Managed to not get jumped by the local Mountain Lion and got it up to the Shop and into the RR. This time instead just having gear lashed in the right side will be a bed/bunk for the...

That's our 1994 Provan Tiger #33 on a Chevy K2500 chassis. I found it in Estes, Co. about 9 years ago and restored it, lifted it and rebuilt the interior. We've managed to to put about 100k on it since.

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

A good day of of RR prep. Got the Safe Xtract Synthetic winch installed on the 8274. Still need to tension it before the Moab event. Picked out the Zarges cases that will be part of the rear platform build. Still need to sort then ATC gearbags for this loadout. And, now need to get the old...

    Adventure Tool Company's 1987 FJ60 "Rhino Ride" - Part 2 (2023)

Didn't seem to be a problem. They had 10 tires in the Denver distribution center and I got 4. Hopefully I don't take 15 years to replace these!
