Ever dream about building a 4x4 adventure van out to your liking, being able to travel the continent with ease, and explore your hobbies and nature easier than ever before? Well this is the van for you! This builder's dream is a 2021 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter van...
Got the van back from the alignment shop this afternoon and got the new fiberglass fenders on for a little more clearance! Does anyone have any expirience making their own fender liners? I am in need of some sort of plastic or rubber material to make them out of and I am trying to figure out...
Lift is done! I went to install a diamond eye 4" exhaust kit today and am having some clearance issues in the back, the exhaust wants to hit the fuel tank. Hopefully I can figure that one out. I have injectors coming tomorrow, but will be down at MEPS all day so I will probably not get to...
Ordered injectors, they come on Thursday, hope I can get through that project ok! I have been working on the lift when I have time! I have the front end all wrapped up, but am not being held up by some very stuck leaf spring bolts! Its always something! If someone has any advice on how to...
I honestly think I will just do the injectors myself if I can get a set here in time. It doesn't seem like too terrible of a job, but the timing is an issue for sure. And you are right, I will not have much time during OTS, but unfortunately I will not be back to Washington for some time, so I...
Pretty crazy day. I had my van in the shop thinking I had some bad U-joints because I had a vibration while accelerating. Turns out I have 2 injectors that are going bad. I was quoted $5500 to replace 2 injectors, glow plugs, under VC harnesses, and valve cover gaskets. I am at a loss for...
Used the van to run a load of stuff to the dump the other day, and their scale said it weighed 7380 pounds with me in it and half a tank of fuel! Pretty heavy for a stripped interior but not the end of the world by any means!
Still not a fun job with the 2WD van, but I can imagine that with anything else in the way it would be a nightmare! Took the van on its first drive after all the HPOP, fuel bowl, turbo pedestal, water pump, and oil cooler work today. Seems to not be leaking other than the tiniest little seep...
Small update. I pulled the oil cooler today to replace the O-rings and gaskets. The large o-rings were extremely brittle, and flattened out. The smaller o-rings seemed ok, but I replaced them anyway. Got the cooler put back together, which was fairly interesting without a press, but I made...
A wave snowy and cold weather has all but put a stop to progress. I did manage to get new tail lights installed and make a new wiring harness for them, and so that is something. I had the lift kit and wheel's/tires show up
Update: Lift kit has shipped from Weldtec, and will arrive here on Tuesday! I also ordered wheels and tires, and those should be here in about a week. I am really excited for this step!
Oh, also, I have a google drive folder with step by step instructions for every job I have done so far (removal/ install instructions for the HPOP, Water Pump, CPS, Fuel Bowl, Turbo, etc.) that I printed out and had in plastic sleeves in a binder when I was doing the work. It was really handy...
Yes, most of the work was done from inside the van, I removed the passenger seat for easier access. I think that it would be just about impossible to do this job from the front of the van. And I haven't had the chance to drive the van with the adrenaline pump yet (I don't have tail lights...
It was not too bad, Just time consuming. I am no mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, and I wouldn’t say it was difficult, it just took time. I probably spent 8 hours on the project spread over 4 days. I have no doubt that someone more capabale could do it in half that time or less...
