How Do You Keep Your Children Busy on a Road Trip?

Take a bin with assorted games/activities/healthy snacks that can be done on the road. Bring them out one at a time when boredom occurs.

Don't Everyone Jump On This At Once

People. The selling price is the selling price. What it sells for is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. This is not taking advantage of people. If you have a $100K sitting in your pocket waiting to get spent and you spend it on this, so what. It's your money. The seller is not...

Do people use multiple shore power plugs?

I have a 30 amp connector for my trailer. Some places only offer 50 amp, so I have an adapter to step down to 30. Some offer both, but I typically default to 30. I've never used the standard 115v 15/20a receptacles for powering my rig.

    Campsite scalping

I've actually camped Bear Lake, many many years ago when you could get in without a reservation. I understand that there are people that for one reason or another want to have a guaranteed site when they go out, and when you have kids with you, it's important and can be good to go to a place...

How bad of an idea is this?

If I'm really jonesing for caffeine but too lazy to fix the Bialetti, I just heat a pot of water and toss in two Starbucks instant packets. I'm really more of a cold tea when wheeling. Far less hassle and refreshing too.

Which maps do you use in Gaia?

I tend to switch layers depending on what I am looking at. Currently I am working on a road-trip through Colorado and Utah, so I have Sat with Labels, USFS Rec Sites, GAIA Streets. When I go offroad I will layer MVUM, USFS Classic, GAIA Topo and will alternate with these and a few others like...

    Campsite scalping

I once booked a campsite at a local county park. My Belgian niece had never camped before, so I wanted to make it as easy as possible for her and her kids. When we got to the site I had reserved, I noted the site next to us was open, so I decided to go down to the ranger place and reserve this...

    Campsite scalping

As currently implemented, the reservation system is flawed. It seems kinda silly to be charged a "reservation fee" when you have to pay the site fee up front, and you have to use their system which I would hardly call "convenient". Heck, they should be paying people to use their system. It's...

How bad of an idea is this?

I just bring a Bialetti and a pocket rocket. Takes a few minutes longer, but simple and a good Americano.

I hate making reservations, and keep in mind we are talking campgrounds here. I've never had a good experience at a campground. I'll go dispersed until I cannot.

FWC for full time living on road?

FWIW, here are my thoughts. I started life tent/ground camping. I've had a slide-in camper with the wife and two kids. As the kids got older, the camper got really small and so we reverted to tent camping. Thing is, with tent camping, now it is often just the wife and I, yet we are still...

    Epic Locals - Humanity Matters

I've got one. I'll call it "The man from Socorro" Late one summer, I planned a loop trip to see the NRAO/VLA and try to get some late summer full-moon rising shots over the array. This was to be a road-trip, dragging my quad behind the MIL's Roadtrek for any off-roading I wanted to do. And I...

Sad End to This Cautionary Tale, As Folks Start to Head Back Out Into the Wilds, Pls Be Careful

He probably looked at the map, saw the trees and rationalized that it was all downhill, then, when it got rugged, felt committed. Sorry for the couple.

I agree, that for them, it was a viable option. Probably not much else to burn out there :-). Just as a general precaution about what to do when lost - maybe the best advice is to think long and hard about your choices - before making them. Looking at Willow Creek on GE and in the NPS...

Sad End to This Cautionary Tale, As Folks Start to Head Back Out Into the Wilds, Pls Be Careful

Might as well add my opinion to this thread. Disclaimer: I'm not a cartographer or a former Marine and I don't even know where the Holiday Inn Express is. I do, however, have many years of experience traveling in rugged country. I too, live in the desert and whenever I venture off pavement...
