First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

I’ve followed your thread on mud for a long time and it’s partially what convinced me on the 1uz. It’s a super great read so that’s for posting all that up. I’ll definitely be going with an R series when I do go down that path. One of my good friends is diving into his swap right now so I can’t...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

I appreciate it! That was kind of my intention. An icon-esque 1st gen build to update aspects of it and make it a lot more fun and comfortable. It’s still got a ways to go, but for now I’m just enjoying it as is. It also helped scratch the “I want the new bronco” itch when ford unveiled it

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

Thankfully, everything seems to be good! It didn’t skip a beat driving down to OKC and then out to NWA and back to KC. I even hauled my old rear axle on a cargo carrier back up and sold that for a crisp benjamin which was nice. Other than that, I haven’t really had a chance to drive it. Home...

    1st Gen 4runner Project: My COVID-19 Build

Awesome! Can’t wait to see it together but I’m sure that’s not just me being impatient haha. Yeah I did this with mine. Kind of a moot point on the front after I made fender liners, but definitely good piece of mind for the Hannemann flares as mine felt much weaker than the ADVs. Then again...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

Oh well. It is what it is. I knew I should have done it myself while I had everything torn down but I was already pressed on time. I still intend to do a 1uz swap but I have to run electrical and finish out my garage before I can do any sort of work in it. A good friend of mine is getting his...

The Restoration And Build Thread For My 1992 FJ80

Unfortunately, the lonestar land cruiser round up last spring ended up being canceled, and the cruiser basically ended up in storage until several months back when I was finally able to swap it out with the 4runner and get it up to KC. My commute to work just went from 16 ish miles to 2 so I’ve...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

That’s my dad’s truck. It’s an ‘05 4wd limited. Mild lift in the front and airbags in the rear with 285/75/17 Cooper AT3 XLT. He said it pulled it no problem 70+ the whole way to KC. Only issue was that the u haul straps were too short to go around the tires so I went and bought 2” straps. He...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

Well driving down to NWA was almost a disaster. I had the rear main Seal replaced with a brand new OEM seal while the clutch was being replaced. It had 220k on the original and not a single drip, but I figured this would just guarantee it would be good for another 200k miles. I pull into NWA...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

Yeah it’s too fun not to use. I’m not driving it on tight tree trails though. Saving the cruiser for that since I have no desire to buff this truck again. Rock chips though...LT width stuff definitely flings crap all over

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

I know I’ve been slacking on updates. I’ve been busy with work, moving into my new house, and a few weekend trips. About 3 or 4 weeks back, I was on my way back from Bentonville (went down to wheel my cruiser down around rendezvous in the ozarks but wasn’t at Byrd’s for more than 20 minutes...

    1st Gen 4runner Project: My COVID-19 Build

Yeah exactly. I drilled the spot welds on the corner light bracket and then used some ultra low profile stainless Allen head bolts that I may have even shaved down a smidge with washers and nyloc nuts. Here’s the only pic I could find of how I set it up.

    1st Gen 4runner Project: My COVID-19 Build

Awesome progress! You may want to get the doors and more of the front end and hood on before fitting the glass if you haven’t already. I used those parts to like up the fenders as they aren’t exactly OEM quality/fit and take a little massaging to fit right

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

Not yet. I’ve been waiting on rear bumpstops to show up. They were “delivered“ yesterday to my street’s lockbox but I didn’t get them so I’ve been dealing with USPS to get the ball rolling on finding them.

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

First 3k miles on the refreshed truck are in the books. I went down to Arkansas this past weekend and got in a lot of mountain biking and took my dad in the runner out on a fun 50ish mile route through the Ozark National Forest. I only took 1 pic of it on the trip but took some in the city a...

How could I forget the awning that optimistically might only be used 1 day a year!

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

Back on topic, I spent a good chunk of this weekend out exploring some Of rural Kansas south of where I’m currently living. For navigation I used a mix of google maps for satellite imaging to get off the pavement and then Waze’s uncluttered interface to see where turns might be in the road and...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

Hahahahaha some people man Yeah its a shame I didn’t just slap on an OME lift, an ARB front bumper, a roof basket with a hi lift mounted with quick fists (LOL), some rotopax, and receiver hitch mounted tire carrier. I would have been done so much longer ago. Now the fun part begins...Getting...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

I don’t see your problem. This is a build thread, but there are some pics of trips I’ve taken it on but not having 4wd up until a couple months ago has really limited what I’ve done with this thing. It’s a whole entire process and I figured some would enjoy seeing the work and thought that goes...

First Foray into 4Runners - My 1st Gen Build

I’ve got about a thousand miles on the truck now. The sound deadening was a great call And I can definitely tell that the random drone/noise from the cargo area has been reduced. I installed some 3M PPF on the fronts of the rear flares and the fronts of the front fenders last weekend. I still...
