How can I restore this massive cargo box to it's former glory?

Once the gelcoat is oxidized I figure there's no reason to worry about using a light polishing compound like the 3M stuff I mentioned. I mean a gelcoat that's 25+ years old exposed to the UV here in Colorado isn't going to last forever even if a fella was absolutely OCD about waxing anyway...

    HAM Operators- Post up here

Absolutely true! Congrats @colodak on passing. And something to keep in mind, as discomforting as it might be, is that someone had to just squeak by in everything. For every doctor who was top of his or her class there was one who was at the bottom and did adequately. He or she is still a...

How can I restore this massive cargo box to it's former glory?

That's the use for it IMO - first coat sprayed in after the release into the mold. I'd use for spot repairs perhaps for not for a total re-coat. To clean up the gelcoat on my WilderNest I use 3M 9006, which you should be able to find or at least order though paint suppliers. It's very...

Older Edgestar Fridge w/out low voltage cutoff...anyone add an external one??

I had a battery break, physically break. The post apparently developed a crack that had it making intermittent contact with the grid inside. It appeared like a failed cell since the voltage would settle to about 9V and when the fridge would kick on the voltage would drop to 3 or 4 volts, which...

    Garmin Overlander

I've only used Garmin's typical handheld receivers but I think the interface is fine. Yup, it's not Android or iOS but what I need is there and easy to use. But my comparison is using a phone-sized device with small virtual buttons working a cascade of menus. The screen on my GPSMaps 78 is...

Older Edgestar Fridge w/out low voltage cutoff...anyone add an external one??

I would say a low voltage disconnect is more like a rev limiter for your engine or fuses for your cables. Most of the time you never notice but if you do something extraordinary (or stupid) it keeps you from doing more damage. We all eventually hit a limit to how much space and money we have...

Two-Wheel Drive Ford Ranger's New $595 Off-Road Pkg Is Touted as a “Hell of a Deal”

Just thought too that I can't remember a situation I've ever wished I didn't have 4WD, so I'm certainly not suggesting 2WD is better. Just saying that 2WD should be seen as an absolutely threshold because it can work fine if you have clearance and weight over the drive axle. Now there have...

Two-Wheel Drive Ford Ranger's New $595 Off-Road Pkg Is Touted as a “Hell of a Deal”

There's always corner cases. I did say 4WD >> 2WD general. I'm also the guy using 4WD high a lot and use low range as much as possible. It's less stress on the drivetrain, less tire slip. Of course you're correct and I don't disagree. Just saying that taking a differential out of the...

Two-Wheel Drive Ford Ranger's New $595 Off-Road Pkg Is Touted as a “Hell of a Deal”

Steering traction is a distinct difference between 2WD and 4WD, that's for sure. It's not always an advantage to have driving traction coupled with steering, though.

Two-Wheel Drive Ford Ranger's New $595 Off-Road Pkg Is Touted as a “Hell of a Deal”

4WD doesn't make you invincible. If that 20 feet of sand is 30 feet or whatever is greater than your wheelbase is you're just as stuck. Then if it's a locked 2WD you have two driven wheels just like an unlocked 4WD and actually would be slightly better without a differential trying to balance...

Show us your Toyota 4runner, tacoma or truck.

The airbags don't necessary deploy as normal with an aftermarket bumper. They will deploy regardless which bumper you have or even if you don't have one at all due to those g-force sensors. Their timing is dependent on how the stock bumper absorbs energy and collapses. What ARB I think claims...

What do you think about this non-street legal India “Jeep”?

It's not really an imitation, Mahindra actually has a license from Willys that dates back to the 1940s to build Jeeps in India for India, which they call a Thar. The Roxor UTV they build in Michigan is basically that vehicle with a different grill to get around the Jeep trademark in the U.S.

Two-Wheel Drive Ford Ranger's New $595 Off-Road Pkg Is Touted as a “Hell of a Deal”

You're right on every point @Buliwyf with one honorable mention. Here in Colorado it's typically 4WD SUVs that have flipped the greasy side up when it snows due to the "I have 4WD" syndrome. A 2WD pickup is self limiting since it's more difficult to over drive your brakes and high center of...

Two-Wheel Drive Ford Ranger's New $595 Off-Road Pkg Is Touted as a “Hell of a Deal”

That's the real truth about all of this, 90% of what we do recreationally in the U.S. can be done in a 2WD truck that has high clearance. I bet having a decent low first gear and a locker would push that up to 99% of trails/roads/whatever. I think it would be more losing low range than 4WD...

Two-Wheel Drive Ford Ranger's New $595 Off-Road Pkg Is Touted as a “Hell of a Deal”

Definitely. Lots of regular dudes in the Southwest run deserts with built 2WD trucks. It's just a different hobby from guys with rocks and mountains that build rock crawlers. They are technically "trails" in that they are roads on BLM and state land rather than "trails" that are actually...

    In vehicle Navigation system

I've wondered about factory navigation. I suppose the main question is the quality of the maps and POIs as well as if they are applicable to the purpose. IOW, they are probably biased for highways and pavement and lack USFS and BLM data, not to mention they are probably only going to let you...

New DC to DC Charger From Renogy-20 amps or 40 amps-Flooded/AGM/GEL/Lithium

This one works pretty well for under $30. The Hall effect sensor isn't clamp-on so you do have to anticipate when you're cabling or at least be able to disconnect and route it though later. There's other less than perfect things, the meter isn't sealed, the sensor wiring is pretty short as...

Two-Wheel Drive Ford Ranger's New $595 Off-Road Pkg Is Touted as a “Hell of a Deal”

Toyota has offered a Prerunner TRD Tacoma. It's got the raised ride height of a 4WD but no front diff. It does have a rear locker, though. AFAIK they stopped offering it some time ago, though.

Any of you running 235/85/16 tires?

I'm a fan of load range E tires as well, I find that they're tougher over time when you spend dozens of weekends annually working them. The little scrapes and abrasions don't accumulate into torn sidewalls as soon.

New DC to DC Charger From Renogy-20 amps or 40 amps-Flooded/AGM/GEL/Lithium

You have the basic instruments you need. Measuring voltage gives a rough state that along with measuring the current that flows in during charge and out during discharge gives you what you need. The critical piece of the puzzle is a way to record it over time, e.g. the Kill-A-Watt type devices.
