We did a lot more hiking in the fall and winter of 2020/21. We also managed to do a few Jeep camping trips with ground tents which were a nice change of pace.

This was a one of the local hiking trailheads.

but now, a change is coming....

We are saying goodbye to our old friend and looking forward to something new as our trips and needs evolve. I can't believe we've had this tent on the truck full time for almost 5 years now. It looks so odd without it sitting up there. It has been a great learning experience and we've thoroughly enjoyed using it through the years.

I had an old friend that was in a smaller Tepui RTT and with his 2 growing boys they were quickly getting cramped and needing some more space. They came by one evening to see if a larger tent would work for them and ultimately led to the sale of ours. It was nice not having to post it for sale and go through all the hassle. We got it transferred over to his M101A3 trailer one evening and it fit perfectly.

Sorry for the delay. :) I blinked and it seems that this summer flew by.

Back in early July I placed an order to Ashville Vehicle Outfitters for an AluCab Gen 3.1 RTT. A few weeks later my wife and I made a road trip there to get away for a few days and pick up our new tent. AluCab had just released this new version which has some upgrades to the 3.0. These include a new telescoping ladder (with wide rungs), a side door covering, zippered aft covering, anti condensation pad, a vent at the top of the aft wall, a new door/zipper design, and a switch by the door that operates the overhead light.

I ordered a set of 1400 mm bars to get me started but after doing a test fit I decided that the fabricated awning brackets I made a few years ago would have to go. This tent is a bit wider than my CVT so the plan is to use AluCab brackets and mount the awning directly to the tent.

I ended up ordering a set of awning brackets and a new cover for the awning. This past weekend I managed to work on getting the brackets mounted, the welded brackets ground off, the electrical box removed, and touched up the paint on the rack.

So after getting things repainted and doing another fit check of the tent I realized that in order to shift it as far back as I wanted I needed to remove a welded on tab. I finally got things where I wanted them and was ablet to mount the tent for good. Last step was to get the new awning bag prepped and get the awning mounted up.

Here are a few picts...

And here's the final result...
