Road Warriors (Is it an adventure if you drive a touring car?)

A sports car might not take you as far off the grid as overlanding mainstays like the Toyota 4Runner or Jeep Wrangler, but have you ever tried to hustle one of those barges up a twisty road? “People are missing out by putting rooftop tents on their trucks and their SUVs,” Keen says. “Find a way to put one on your small car. You’re going to have so much more fun.”

Part of my pandemic reading included this short, extremely entertaining book on this very subject which would tend to support the premise of an Adventure/Expedition/Etc, being solely what you make of it, regardless of which wheels are under you.

Awesome bike! Crazy fast and a hoot to ride. Are those the Hepco-Becker side racks? I'd love to find a set of those, apparently they're unobtanium now, sad to say.
Yes sir, 2004 919. I sold it about 2 years ago. I think the racks were from SW Motec. I bought them in 2010 so I might not have remembered correctly.

I swapped on the CBR 600 front rim and CBR 900 rear rim. I also had a Penske rear shock and Ohlin springs in the front forks. I also did a CBR 900 header and exhaust. Dollar for dollar the best performance mod was the 520 kit with an aluminum sprocket.

Somewhere I have a crap ton of pics. I did a loooot of work to mine over the years.

I guess I got my love road trippin anything from my parents. After returning from serving in Malaysia my parents got married and toured all of Great Britain on their scooter. No Snow Peak, no titanium sporks, no ARB fridge or gore tex socks, just single duffle, wool clothes and adventure. My mom still has the photo (my father has long since passed away) of them in front of Stonehenge with the scooter leaning against one of the pillars........can't do that anymore.

It's amazing how cool the old were when they were young!
