Are the wheel studs long enough on the front? Hard to tell from the picture but it looks like they aren't. Other than that, they look nice. Bring on the bling.

Tread width difference between the 335/80r20 conti MPT81 and the same size goodyear M275

Conti is 11" and goodyear is 12.25"

Both tires are not mounted on wheels

I might be missing something here, but why go through with the expense just to have a 20x9 instead of a 20x11. Why not just run a 37x13.5 tire on the 20x11? If 37's clear on the Ford without a lift, would it negate the need for a keldermen?

Not missing anything. This project has many reasons that are driving the need/want. Some are functional reasons, others are purely personal preference and the last is my passion for a worthy project.

1. I prefer a tall skinny combination. The 20x10 will fit everything from a 33"to 41"+. My opinion, The 20x11 is too wide for a 35x11.50, 35x12.50, 37x12.5 and even the conti 335.... the 20x11 is perfect for a 13.50 and goodyear 335 but that is not my taste.

2. The 20x11 sticks out too far and is going to be damaged by rock rash. The 20x10 is more protected by the tire sidewall.

3. The 20x11 inside lip is close to axle components. The 20x10 gives much more clearance and allows for easier removal of mud from the back of the wheel.

4. A 20x10 opens up a lot of options to folks that want to run something besides the 335/80r20. The 275/80r20 (37") is a nice option but it requires a 20x10.

At freeway speeds, I have found that wider tires do not track on the road as well as skinny tires. On trails, I have had wider tires pick up rock cuts easier then skinny tires. Finally, I want the front tires to be under the fenders. Exposed tires (like 37x13.5 on 20x11) will sling a mess on the windshield on wet roads and mud/rocks on the truck off road.

Even with extended fenders like the McNeil racing replacement felders, the 335 and 20x11 just sticks out too far. I am in South TX and it rains here very often. I want a daily driver that does not get muddy spray on the windshield every time the roads are wet.

These pics are McNeil +6" fenders with 335 Conti and 20x11 hutchinson wheels and 6" lift. Nice coverage but still not enough. A 12.5 width tire on a 10” wide wheel would be completely under the cover of this fender.

Makes more sense, It looks like the only capacity you would have to worry about is the tires, at 8,000 lbs for the pair. The only 275/80/20 I have found is the MPT 81, not sure of tread life or balance issues with it since I have no experience with this tire. There is a guy parked next to me that has them on a Renault.

It would be nice if their were more heavy duty tire options available.

Thanks for starting this thread and bringing this wheel to our attention. Has any progress been made on the wheel becoming available for retail sale? I think you about nailed the requirement for a super single wheel.

Since no one has bothered to ask yet, I'd be very curious what kind of business you are in. As an active duty attack helicopter pilot, I'd be very much interested in my future job being "helicopter tow driver/helicopter pilot." Thanks!

Update...

i have been through several sets of tires researching the best all around tire for a singles F450/550. I have ran - 35x12.50, 37x12.50, 37x11.50, 335/80r20 and now 38x13.50
All have been Nittos (except the 335s) and all have used 20” wheels

The truck now has a flatbed and 6” Kelderman air ride rear and a Fabtech 6” front.

The 38” nittos have been the best riding tire so far. I run 75-85 on the highway and have hauled a combined load of 47,500#. Even with this load on the gooseneck, I have not exceeded the rear axle limitation with the LT bead super singles.

The company that had the one piece wheels made is still refusing to sell the wheels without the whole truck. They are also cast wheels... so I am bring a new FORGED one piece aluminum wheel to market

I am still running the one-off set of 20x9 hutchinson wheels with LT beads.

Ok folks. I have a final quote and design.

These wheels will be forged, made in the USA, 20x10 and one piece with the 10x225 bolt circle.

The front and rear will use the same wheel but flipped around to track properly.
The retail price I will need to sell these at to justify this effort will be $2,000 ea if I buy 100 whees.

Is there enough interest in a 1 piece aluminum wheel for the 10 lug 450/550 and 4500/5500 trucks to make this a good investment?
