Worth Fixing?

This 1990 Montero near me may be available for purchase.

197K, V6 with a hole in its side, hanging rod instead of "Hanging Chad", rust-free, decent tires, nice interior.

How close to scrap is this with a bad engine? Is it worth picking up if bought CHEAP and doing a motor swap?

Wow that thing is beautiful. Absolutely worth saving. Where is it located? I know of a totally destroyed parts truck with a good engine in SoCal

It is worthless.

If you want one, and can get this one for free, then it may work out for you, but it would probably be quicker, easier, and less expensive to buy one that doesn't have a windowed engine...

Well that answers that question!

Philosophically I am not enthusiastic about that Montero at all!

Best leave it where it lies.

Great sheet metal, should probably be saved, but will be a labor of love, not profit unfortunately. Not a Gen 1 Bronco.

If we're talking strictly profit motive, if it could be picked up for something like $750 and you had the chops to throw a junkyard engine on it, a couple honest days of cleaning and a set of tires you could be less than 2500 bucks into it and resell it for 3500 or more without much difficulty.

That's not work I have the tools to carry out at this time and any significant distance for acquisition would eat into the profit pretty deep - but if we're looking at it as nothing more than a financial transaction that thing could be a positive integer.

Anyway you should share where it is, so that if someone is interested they can see about scooping it up and making something of it.

Not sure of the OP skill level, but $1k isn't much margin or margin for error in my opinion.

I'm thinking $300 Max as the truck has sat in the same spot for over a year on property the vehicle owner does not own. The property owner wants it GONE! The property owner can git the truck anytime he wants on a "Mechanics Lien". That's why the truck was originally brought into his shop to see what the problem was!

Yes I have the skill and the tools not sure I have the desire!

It really is a nice little truck and would be a shame to junk it!

I would get it if it was for cheap and wanted a project...if you got the skills, tools, and time all you got left is the will. It is a clean truck from what I can see in the pictures.
