I’m back!

Hi everybody
I’ve been away ever since I sold my 99 gen 2.5 back in 2014.
my wife and I got new cars. She got an AWS Ford Flex, I got a mustang.
Well, we really missed the montero. Like, A LOT. The flex has been a great car for family road trips, good fuel economy, comfortable, spacious.
But, we atill missed the Monty. Missed off road.
Decided to go with a Gen III this timing as the gen 2.5’s I was finding were all pretty trashed.

not a lot to choose from in not cal either. Seemed like they were all mid west/ east coast cars. Just about every one I found had rust. Our old one was a rust bucked as well. It came from IL, so...

anyway, we found a really clean, zero rust, fairly well maintained Gen III in so cal, so we bit the BULLITT and drove the 1200 miles round trip to get it. Paid a little more than I wanted too, but. It’s clean, new timing belt, tensioner, h20 punt, t-stat, exhaust manifolds. 170k miles. No smoke. Passed a ok. Didn’t seem to consume any oil on the trip home.

there are still some things that need to be repaired/ replaced.
The drive home up hwy 5 was a little nervous racking. Taking a vehicle you have zero history with and hitting the road in 100* head...
I had my eye on the temp gauge the whole way.
She did great. Never went past the middle. So, naturally, me being me I began my build list I’m my head as I drove.?
Also, learning about the car and discovering things I didn’t see in the sale pics or seller failed to mention.... like the radio does t work... that made for a long trip ?.

anyway.... it had these ridiculous 22” wheels with total mall crawler tires. The are like driving on a washboard and howl like crazy. So, they’ll be the first to go.
It has been lifted 2” as well. Other than that, it’s all stock.
I’ll start a new build theead soon.

Nope, I’m up in Santa Rosa.
sonfar this week, I’ve sorted out the blinking center diff light.. and figured out why all my traction control and brake lights ore on. It’s these big wheels.
inbkught a neat set of old school JAOS victor on Exceed II wheels in 16x7. They will be here this week. I’m 95%set on ordering a set of Good Year Duratrac tires in 285 75r 16.
gut at the shop said the lights are all on because those ridiculous 22” rims are messing with the wheel speed sensors. Before I go and replace then, I’ll get the right size wheels back on. After a few hundred miles, code may clear it’s.
