2006 E350 6.0 Ambo build “jean claude VAN damme”

I’ve really taken a liking to building offroad campers over the last couple of years. My wants and needs have progressed quickly. Started off with a pretty well built Xterra running an RTT which we loved. Then we built a squaredrop camper which we also loved. Now we are doing a van “finally”. I would say realistically the long term is to build and use to sell and eventually move up to the next platform. Or at least that’s what my ADD brain is telling me at this exact moment.

Here we have our find. A 2006 retired medical transport vehicle with 155k on the dial with a 6.0 diesel. Here’s where she started:

First things first. “Attempt” to make it look less ambulatory if you will.

I removed the graphics, spray bombed the wheels in textured black and used VHT night shades on the front red lights.

We don’t see rust free in these parts. My body is essentially, but I’d be thrilled to have a frame that clean.
Keep a close eye on those rear shackles. They like to crack and break in half. I was lucky to not sustain any significant body damage on my type 3, but I don’t think you’d be so fortunate.

Looking forward to seeing what you build. :D

Oh that’s good haha!

We also considered Van Halen, Van Morrison, Vanna White, Rob Van Winkle, and Meat Wagon.

I’ll check those! Didn’t know it was an issue, good to know.

Yeah, still shocked about it being rust free. I’m originally from the rust belt so this is a real treat.

Started some light tear down today. Just enough to give better front access and allow us to still use it will we decide on what we want. We’re pretty tactical about placement and builds. It’s my favorite part. I love the engineering standpoint of less is more. A well designed product will function with ease and work for 90% of the public. At any rate. Here’s the progress from tonight.

Electrical- while it may look overwhelming it’s all labeled! Additionally the shore power connection is legit.

I suspect this forklift looking plug may have been for an inverter. Can anyone confirm?

The rear ac on this has its own condenser and heater core. Runs on its own thermostat.

That anderson connector looks just like the one into my inverter.

Do you happen to know what size and brand yours is? I’d like to replace it. Wish it was in there still :(

It's a Fleetpower 1000 Watt. Nice combo charger/inverter. 3000 watt peak. Super pricey new. I run saws, drills, etc off of it. Not enough power to run an induction cooktop though.

Perfect and thanks! I think it’s worth having. Especially since all the hard work of installation of wiring has already been completed.

Holy cow. Wish I would have realized how much these were. I would have made sure it was in there before I bought lol.

Progress is slow this week. Put in a temp bed for a quick trip we have in a couple weeks and also started working on ambo switch panel relocation project.

Air mattress for test fit purposes. Going to go with a full-size.

Lots of wires. All are labeled which is super nice.
