1992 Dodge W250 Cummins / VW Vanagon Abomination *MAY CAUSE BLINDNESS*

Hello!

My name is Matthew Alig, a 30 something "jack-of-some" trades, getting ready to build something a little crazy.

As a teen, I owned the above 1992 Dodge W250 Cummins and spent about 200k miles behind the wheel. Totaled twice. Once I had a family, the truck spent most of it's time parked aside from the occasional dump run. I always loved the old Dodge, and vowed to never sell it. Sitting for many years, I felt that the old truck had lost its usefulness in my life. The elements had taken over, and the truck was a wiring nightmare. The drivetrain would last forever, but the body was on borrowed time.

I decided that I would turn it into an expedition/exploration platform. I disassembled the body and sold it to a craigslist buyer.

I have always loved the VW Vanagon, and dreamed up the idea of using a widened front section of a van as the crew cab to my build.

I started making videos covering the progress of the build, and will post them here along with updates in forum text and pictures.

Here is video No. 1 showing the general plan and goal for the build.

Video No. 2 shows frame prep progress and a breakthrough in the build.

I know it sounds like a crazy build...thats because it is. It may cause blindness of onlookers. That is a risk I am willing to take. I hope you enjoy my build as I go.

I like where you're going with this. I have a 1987 Kenworth 13-210, it's a VW cab on a medium duty chassis with a Cummins 8.3, 6 speed and air brakes. Will subscribe to your YouTube channel tonight and watch your build.

There was someone on here a few years ago that had a similar build. Front was a mid 80's Dodge and the rear was from an old VW camper.

I definitely appreciate all of the encouragement! I pick the donors up on Wednesday. Should be an interesting 20 hour round trip. I will update when I acquire the vans and put them in my driveway. Stay tuned!

The Vanagon certainly lacks the historical significance of the "Vanbefore".

And as cool as the bay window bus is, the splitty is the Holy Grail. If you did this to a bay window bus, people would freak out. If you did this to a 23-window splitty, they would be forming a lynch mob. This '63 Samba hammered for $198,000:
