Hi all! Here is my recent acquisition: '16 F350 CCLB with a '17 Northstar 850SC. I am new to the truck camper and overland world so looking for some help/suggestions on upgrades (what, if anything, I should do to suspension, wheels, tires, etc). Looking to do an extended road trip and want to make her as good of an overland as I can. I know never be as off road/overland capable as a Jeep but want to be able to get to some decent out of the way places so looking forward to hearing those that are more experienced let me know opinions on must have upgrades to the just nice to haves. Thanks!
At the very least new reservoir shocks, quality E/F rated tires,a rear swaybar ,airbags or perhaps Timbrens. You should be able to get one-up bigger tires to afford a bit more flotation off highway and still wear normally. Enjoy!! CJC Offroad can advise. They sell and install Carli,Thuren and other suspension enhancements. These guys know everything and won't oversell you. http://www.cjcoffroad.com/Carli-Sus...vS0g_VbUy0ahquW8LUKqqy2J-5FclgjYaAjejEALw_wcB

Winter tires off, 1/4 annual wash, and ready to (hopefully) roll.

Warmer , if you plan on more than week just more comfortable. More storage. FWC interior is cheap. If you want lighter than FWC, if you want an all around better camper. Hallmark

I walked through a Hallmark at Expo and IMHO they're just kind of ugly. FWC's just look better. Like the one on that Tundra above is sweet.

TWO VEHICLES
2002 VW Golf 2.0L - ISC suspension, ESC control arms, BFI dogbane mounts, Norcold Fridge, Inergy Kodiak with 3 solar panels, and a Tepui Baja rooftop tent
2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0L [2wd] - Skamper 080s pop-up truck camper
Other gear
Alpine Chef woodstove
Eskimo Quikfish3 ice shanty

My intention with these builds is to slowly convert into a more off road overland rig. I started with a project car / daily driver VW GOLF 2.0L MK4. You'll see a little about my first real maiden voyage to Newfoundland with my V-dub on my blog. This year I purchased the truck and slide-in pop-up camper for around $2500 combined. I'm currently repairing the lift, address mechanical issues & preparing to remove the fridge. I may sell the truck eventually, keep the camper and eventually upgrade to a 4wd or AWD truck.
Update 5/11/2020: After a replacement heco system broke after the second lift. I returned the parts and have been looking for a lift solution. Here is my latest test of 2 18"inch actuators mounted on posts. Albeit I don't recommend my lift as is I am fine tuning it and after the second lift test it is progressing. Now its a matter of fine tuning.

The next video is of the inside of the camper. I've added a lagun table, a butcher block countertop and a new faucet.

It's nice having underbed storage and a made up bed when you arrive. I haven't slept in a bag in 20 years since I got my Northstar. Everything fits in the camper, not hanging off the back. The rear door height is more forgiving too.
