2001 Land Rover Discovery 2. 140,000 miles. I’m the 3rd owner, second owner was the mechanic for the original owners family. I have all of the service records since the day it was purchased. It lived in southern California, zero rust. Religiously maintained. Fingers crossed!

Well F me. This is amazing. I love my LR3, but I've always had a soft spot for D2's and this one looks like a proper gem. Great find!

Doing the cooling system like you did is the single greatest step to a reliable Land Rover Discovery. Congratulations on a really nice truck!

Thanks! I did a bundle of research before the purchase and everything I’ve learned pointed directly to the cooling system. Not hard at all, just took some patience. Appreciate the knowledge and kind words.

Nice Disco! I also have a 2001 D2, still 100% stock. I agree the cooling system overhaul was a good idea, I did the same. Depending on mileage make sure you change the oil in the axles, transfer case & transmission too - those tend to get neglected.

Someone recommended this list to me, of which I did most:

60,000 Mile Service or Major Service for High Mileage Used Vehicle just purchased:
  • Bleed the brakes
  • Flush and change the power steering fluid adding one bottle of additive
  • Service the tranny adding one bottle of additive
  • Change the coolant Pressure Cap and t/stat
  • Do an engine flush before changing the oil
  • Do an induction cleaning (I didn't do this)
  • Clean the throttle body (I didn't do this)
  • Add fuel additive to full gas tank (I use BG 44K approved by LR)
  • Change both of the diffs fluid
  • Change the t/case oil
  • Replace the plugs and wires
  • Replace the air filter
  • Lube all the drive shaft grease fitting including the 2 slip shafts (VERY IMPORTANT)
  • Do full inspection of brakes, hoses, bushings etc.
  • Rebuild or Replace the front drive shaft if it only has 1 grease fitting
