Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

Back in the shop again, I was finishing up the final steps to get the truck mobile and off the lift. My brother in law was going in for surgery, and I wanted him to be able to move it if he wanted. His convalescence involves a lot of working on his many cars, so I didn't want to be clogging it...

    Gotta a chance to buy a LX450

Nice, it looks like you got a good deal then!

    Build Weight Master Thread

I think largely it comes down to statistics. Statistically speaking, I'm far more likely to hit a deer with my 100 Series than I am to hit another car, especially considering the locales I'm using the Cruiser for. Hence the front bumper. I wanted that because I have smacked a few deer with an...

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

NEWS: The Cruiser now has a name again! Ladies and gents, she shall be known as Sandy. In other news, I took Sandy for a drive last night to get gas. It's been about six months since any new fuel was put in it, and I've been trying to burn through the stuff in the tank as it's been sitting in...

    DMSKI's 2006 Xterra

My brother-in-law has the KTM 790, and my buddy is looking to get into a more adventure bike, so we'll see what happens. I need to get my endorsement, then there's a place only 45 minutes from my house that rents Himalayans, so I can try it out and see how I feel about it. I'm fairly convinced...

    DMSKI's 2006 Xterra

Ha, I like your method of quieting the leafs down a bit better than my zip-tie fix. It worked, but it was a little unsophisticated. Truck is looking good still, and glad you have the bike to keep getting in trouble with. My buddy and my brother-in-law keep working on getting me to buy a...

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

Hey man! Happy to have you onboard for this one as well. This one has been a doozy, that's for sure. The rust is annoying, but I think I caught it in time for the amount of rust on it. It's manageable with a proper plan and putting in the work, which I am going to do regardless of my future...

Supercharged 1st Gen Frontier Build and Adventures - Babe the Blue Ox

That looks like such a good time! I dig your truck too, I've always had a soft spot for those early Frontiers.

2011 CC LWB Frontier with Vagabond Drifter

Great summary, and I can attest to the GFC being set up as the super lightweight option. I got a chance to see them in person in Bozeman a few years ago, and they've since updated their design. If I still had a pickup, I'd be hard-pressed to decide between those products, though I do see the...

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

The following day, I had some more time off to work on the Land Cruiser thanks to some time off work. I started in on the front end rebuild first, getting the lower control arms hung loosely in place before installing the spindle. A few clicks of the torque wrench and a couple of cotter pins...

2011 CC LWB Frontier with Vagabond Drifter

What an awesome build! I love the utilitarian style you've got going on with the steelies, the Drifter, and the Shrock bumper. First impressions on the Drifter? I've always liked those as an option, even with living in Montana and having GFC right down the road.

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

As a fun aside, this is what the Land Cruiser is currently sharing shop space with - a 1965 Chevy pickup once owned by my father in law. It's been well taken care of and just received a heart transplant. A brand new thumping small block built by Blueprint engines with a Holley Sniper EFI system...

    Build Weight Master Thread

This is a great exercise and keeps the weight problem on your mind. I overbuilt my Nissan by quite a bit, and my last big trip to Colorado in it really cemented the consequences of that for me. Bad braking performance, accelerated parts wear, struggling engine, and several other issues made...

Sandy: 2003 Land Cruiser 100 Series Build & Adventure Thread

I THINK I have a solid plan for de-rustifying this thing and keeping it solid long-term. I have a drain auger that attaches to a drill inbound. I found a YouTube video that showed how to use it to break up rust inside a frame. I think this is a good idea to give me a cleaner surface to work...

    Series 80 Snorkel?

I've used three different vendors and been happy each time. I do know some are selling fiberglass and some are selling LLDPE. LLDPE is what you want. Make sure it comes with a cutting template, not all of them do. Otherwise you pretty much get the same thing from each vendor.
