An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

Jeep was going way to fast when the kinetic rope tightened. The rope broke after pulling the Bronco’s bumper about 1-1/2” then the loose end went through the Bronco’s windshield striking the driver in the face and neck.

An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

Don’t get me wrong, the vast majority of my recovery equipment is of the soft variety. I do still carry a short length of grade 80 chain and a couple of Crosby shackles in the event a stuck vehicle doesn’t have soft shackle friendly recovery points though. I was one of the first guys to use an...

An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

I agree 100% on both points. I shudder when I see people using kinetic straps/ropes like in the video, thats a ton of energy that is going to get released at some point, whether the vehicle gets out or equipment fails. And how many times have we heard how much safer ropes, straps and soft...

An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

My take of the bumper and frame horn sustaining that much damage is the soft shackle was more than capable of doing its job.

An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

Yet another incident supporting my decision to not use kinetic ropes or straps for their intended purpose. Anytime I’m involved with a recovery involving straps or rope I always advise to slowly take up the slack then start the pull gently, not even close to the video above. If the obstacle...

Jeep Gladiator Build Thread - 18 months around Australia with The Road Chose Me

Yeah, we see so many overland builds that are so bloody heavy it makes me wonder how they manage to not constantly wear out or break driveline or suspension components.

Ha! I forgot all about the ”when in Rome” thing, makes perfect sense. Also great that you managed to keep it within GVWR, I know you were always conscience of the weight of things you were adding so good to see the effort pay off.

A couple of questions now that you’ve been out for awhile. Are you still happy with the swag over your previous sleep arrangements? And did you get a chance to weigh the Jeep now thats it’s fully equipped and if so, are you still within rated GVWR?

    TJ as road trip/overlander?

Jeep TJ’s are noisy, ride rough, gutless, hard on fuel, handle crappy and too small. But don’t let that fool you, there are negatives too.

    TJ as road trip/overlander?

I should add that with a the Bestop Sailcloth soft top with the windows in the noise level is very close to a hard top. My new 03 Rubicon came with one and I was surprised how quiet it was compared the regular soft top on the Jeep it replaced.

    TJ as road trip/overlander?

I’ve driven TJ’s with a soft top from Calgary, Alberta to Anaheim CA. From Calgary to Sedona, from Calgary to Vegas, from Calgary to Reno and from Calgary to Vancouver Island as well as a handful of trips to Moab over the years. Most of the time the top was either windowless or down completely...

And it starts, new trailer build

Chassis is 95% complete now, only thing to add is some rock sliders which will be done once the box is installed to ensure correct positioning. Frame is coated with metal etching primer (2 colors, I ran out half way through). Next step is to paint the frame, then paint the bottom of the box so...
