FG53EC Ex-firetruck Camper build. Help, advice needed.

I would put some weight on the truck, lift up one side of the rear wheels and check for frame flex.

4x4 Truck Chassis - Hard Side - Factory build? Market not paying attention or just me?

Most regular RV that has a 4x4 sticker slapped on and a winch bumper mounted will fail going off the road! Just talked with someone the other day that has cracks and a destroyed floor on a "overland RV" he paid $250,000 for. If you send that much money on an RV with the goal of going off the...

4x4 Truck Chassis - Hard Side - Factory build? Market not paying attention or just me?

https://aeonrv.com/ A modern, comfortable all season class B that is much better in overall quality than a mass produced one.

Sprinter 3500 AWD cut away chassis - flex?

The Sprinter and Transit cab chassis both have boxed frame rails. This reduces the natural frame flex to nearly zero For those two vehicles. Any other truck or Van will have frame flex that needs compensation to about damage to a camper body. Saying all of that, after owning a cab chassis...

    CombiBoil water heater from Autoterm/Tigerexped

Correct, the actual boiler vessel needs to be mounted horizontal. The mounting hardware on the other hand can be rotated to allow for floor/wall or ceiling install. As for the distance between the diesel heater and the boiler: the further away the heater is the more heatloss will occur...

MB truck owners in North America - is it worth it?

I love the Mercedes trucks. But owning one in North America is not straight forward. I imported a 2001 Sprinter from Germany into Canada and even though the sprinter brand is well established here, the European model is hugely different. Different enough that mechanics that are familiar with...

Why the big price difference between flatbed and slide-in??

in 2022 we experimented with a similar design like this . Turns out the additional weight and complexity during assembly made it unattractive for us to take it any further.

    CombiBoil water heater from Autoterm/Tigerexped

100% . The combiboil will be our main hot water source. Will have one diesel heater dedicated for the boiler and interior. A second diesel heater will be for redundancy and higher heat output if needed (we are planning to use this truck at the ski hill a lot)...

    CombiBoil water heater from Autoterm/Tigerexped

Hello Forum members! If doesn't happen often that I'm posting in Expedition Portal about components we carry. The following product deserves all mentioning possible! Let me explain: Anyone that has ever outfitted their own camper/trailer/ expo truck knows how difficult it is to source and...

    pivoting frames and mounting campers

We just got our spring mounted subframe installed on a GMC topkick. The amount of frame flex these trucks have is impressive! Even the drivers cab is 3 point mounted. Can’t imagine the damage a subpar subframe could cause to a habitat.

Thx. Ideally the timeline was to have at the expo in May. Due to many delays out of our control, we are now aiming for end of summer this year.

    New project ! 2006 GMC 5500 4x4 Top Kick

Even though she looks like a moving truck at the moment, give it a couple more days till the first windows go in and it will be much better :-)

    New project ! 2006 GMC 5500 4x4 Top Kick

Yep. Fixed at the front, springs going back. The interesting part is the frame flexing over the full length of the truck all the way to the engine. The cab is isolated from that through a three point mount. Hence the 2”-3” flex visible at the front end of the subframe. It shouldn’t be a big...
