    Burying gray water?

Well, I happen to be a vegetarian but believe me, you wouldn't want me top dressing your crops.

Anyone used commercial carpet tile in RTT?

Not in a roof top tent, but I used "Grizzly Grass" outdoor carpeting from Lowe's along with whatever outdoor adhesive they sell along with it. It's pretty inexpensive and comes in green, brown, and maybe blue. I've got it glued over treated plywood to form a little rooftop deck on a van. It's...

Securing Portable Toilet in Shower Pan?

I use the organic biopacks and use a separate pee bottle too. I just didn't want to spoil anyone's assumptions. We looked at (and researched) the "composting" toilets available. Not only are they really expensive, they don't even compost, so you're just carrying around a load of crap like...

Securing Portable Toilet in Shower Pan?

Thanks! One of these days I hope to copy someone else's idea without having to come up with it myself first. I dub it.... The Head Sled.

Securing Portable Toilet in Shower Pan?

Even though the shower/head compartment is quite small (24" x 30") it seems a lot bigger when we open the rear doors. There is also a sink located right across the aisle. Next job: install shower curtains.

Securing Portable Toilet in Shower Pan?

Here is what I came up with. I used T track (of the sort used by woodworkers for building miter guides, etc.) mounted to each side of the shower. A recycled teak wood toilet mount slides in and out on the T track. In the out position it allows taking a shower, then slides back in and locks in...

Securing Portable Toilet in Shower Pan?

Thanks, that was really helpful. That's why I plan to dump it only in any convenient Forest Service-approved fire ring where the layers of charcoal will filter out the dreaded blue chemicals (and excessive quantities of urine), leaving only an organic layer that will soon dry into humanoid chips...

Securing Portable Toilet in Shower Pan?

We just finished the last major job on our van conversion: a custom fiberglass shower pan that fits over the wheel arch. We have a Thetford Curve porta potty and want it to be securely mounted in the shower pan yet be easily removable in order to take a shower. The shower pan is too small to...

Mounting panels to overland rack: tiltable/adjustable solution?

Here's a simple solution for a 4-way tilt system: 1. Weld up a rectangular "picture frame" structure of, say, 1 1/2" OD stainless or aluminum round tubing, slightly larger than your solar panel. The frame can be permanently mounted to your roof rack or vehicle. 2. Bolt eight - ten ea...

Pics of your VAN! Post up!

Thanks, we like it. We bought it used with 58K miles and did a camper conversion. It's just about finished inside now.

Pull-out Bike Rack for Center-Aisle Floor plan

Here is the rack removed from the vehicle. It slides right out on the aluminum tabs that fit inside the T track and can also be partially extended out the back door if desired. Just took it on a shakedown voyage to McCarthy, Alaska on a really rough road and it worked just swell. My original...

Pull-out Bike Rack for Center-Aisle Floor plan

Thanks. Yes, the Gripfist clamps can accomodate tires/rims down to 2.2 inches or so but they also make smaller sizes. They are fairly easy to cinch up and remove and yes, I plan on trimming off the extra rubber after I play around a bit more. I used the same clamps to mount a fire extinguisher...

Pull-out Bike Rack for Center-Aisle Floor plan

Work has been progressing on Nimbus, our 2012 Nissan NV 3500 cargo van. We wanted an interior bike rack both for security and to keep our mountain bikes out of the weather but our center-aisle floor plan lacks a "garage" in which to stow the bikes -- which brought on a lot of head scratching...

    LED interior lights

Haraald, there's a very easy trick to crimping a small - guage wire to a larger one. When you strip the insulation off the smaller-diameter wire, strip off twice as much and then just bend the wire back on itself and twist the strands together to form a larger-diameter one. It turns the end of a...
