Really Big Adventure – M101A2 Build

Yeah! Thanks for sharing — looks great! I will offer some feedback as well. I’m a Creative Director by trade so it comes naturally ?. 1 - When I had my RTT on my truck one of the things I hated was having to climb all over everything trying to set up the tent. I’m 6’ 1” and certain aspects just...

Really Big Adventure – M101A2 Build

Have fun with the build! I had an amazing time building mine and have been able to enjoy it for the past 3+ years. We have been out hundreds of nights in it and have been incredibly impressed with the quality of the trailer. Thanks for the post and shoutout! Nice vid too!

Really Big Adventure – M101A2 Build

Well – a lot has happened since this tribulation of a trip. We had our second child which temporarily put a kibosh to camping. But we've have had her out for several hikes and will get her out camping soon enough. It also gave me the opportunity to make some modifications to the truck and...

Really Big Adventure – M101A2 Build

OPTION 1 - Cross the thinly frozen river that slopes into a swamp in a +7,000lb fully loaded truck pulling a ~2,250 lb trailer...#breakthrough OPTION 2 - Turn around and try to climb back up the very steep icy hill in a fully loaded truck and pulling the same trailer. #jackknife Between not...

Really Big Adventure – M101A2 Build

While I love snowboarding and other winter recreational activities –– I also love camping. I was able to wrangle a buddy into going out for a couple of nights. [My wife is cold when it's 80º, so she's a no-go] We had a great site, the weather managed to stay in the positive single digits. With...

    Telescoping rack questions

Yes — It’s essentially like a soap substance. It just doesn’t breakdown when it gets wet or bubble. It can be wiped off pretty easily however. Nothing like grease or WD40

Overlanding with a Baby | [PICTURE HEAVY] 18 days 4,400 miles

Exciting update and additional challenge excepted. Our second child is due early June of this year. I'm hell bent on sticking to our way of life and will continue camping with 2 children under the age of 2 and 3 dogs.

As winter sets in out here in Colorado, I think we are done camping for the season –– at least as a family. My son and I got 33 nights and my wife 32. I'd like to get a night or two in of winter camping, we'll have to see how the winter goes however.

I averaged about 10.8 mpg [towing the trailer 90% of the time] — so a little over 400+ gallons. Not ideal when most of the trip was through California. I would use the onboard Jerry cans of cheap(er) fuel when prices were outrageous. Colorado was about $2.65/gal and some places in California...

Overlanding with a Baby | [PICTURE HEAVY] 18 days 4,400 miles

Here is a final day pic I forgot to upload. I scraped several inches of mud off the front of trailer, but still managed to spend Almost $30 at the self serve carwash just trying to get big chunks off –– before pressure washing and using the foam cannon at home. As autumn encroaches on the...

Overlanding with a Baby | [PICTURE HEAVY] 18 days 4,400 miles

Thanks, the camera is often my iPhone as well as my Nikon D4s. My wife frequently likes to ‘poke holes’ in my plans. Early on she said “how are we suppose to give him a bath if we are on the road camping for several days?” I told her I’d come up with something... I put him in the empty bucket a...

Overlanding with a Baby | [PICTURE HEAVY] 18 days 4,400 miles

4,318 miles later — The final night of our trip we camped out in one of my absolute favorite spots. I’ve been coming here for 10+ years and it never gets old. The Gore Range at sunset is spectacular — especially while camped out on a cliff overlooking a meadow in the mountains. My wife was happy...

Really Big Adventure – M101A2 Build

Good luck trying to sell your wife ? hahaha. If approval came in the from of eye rolls — my build was a huge success! If you’re looking for vehicle access to more camping spots, the adventure trailer market opens up a lot more opportunities. It’s nice to be able to camp in hard to reach spots...

Really Big Adventure – M101A2 Build

We’ve been out about 25 times this season and the linear actuators have been flawless. I bought them from ‘Windy Nation’ they are used for sun tracking solar arrays. From what I recall they are rated at 250lbs each. So I have the potential to push up 1,000 lbs which is nice. I went with 20”...
