Yakima makes kayak loading bars that do slide into their bars that might work. We have them on our 4 runner and they're pretty stout. They'll hold the weight of a big 2 man kayak and hang out at least 3 ft or so- just a thought.

I'd go with 886's as well- they'll be stiff but will soften up with time and weight. The 885's will definately sag.

Not crazy off road stuff- mostly gravel, maybe some mild jeep trails, etc.

I have experience with Jeeps, Tacomas, Sportsmobiles, etc but I have an itch for an adventure bike. I have researched the BMW r1200 GSA and all sounds perfect but I'm wanting to glean some 411 from the locals. I'm 6'4", 215#, road 60%, gravel and White rim-ish stuff 40% of the time, money less...

Actually it's the GSA I'm looking into. I sat on a '08 GSA and while it's big it didn't feel too big (6'4, 215# here). I'll ride 60% paved, 40% gravel (white rim-ish at craziest) so I think it'll be fine as far as size goes.
