Ozark Mtns, Nov 2010: "100 Meters at a Time"

Not on the "100 Meters After Yesterday" Trail, no. In some places on that trail, even in my Jeep (which stayed home due to lack of snorkel and unknown river levels), it would have been like playing the old 80's board game, Operation. One thing folks need to remember regarding that trail...

    Droid as Navigator

Ya, I run BackCountryNavigator and Google Navigation on a Droid X. It's the next best thing to a iPad or laptop. Mytopo maps look really nice at .05 mile scale. I can import GPX files all day long, just drag and drop onto my SD card in a special folder, open up BackCountryNavigator and import...

    Droid as Navigator

It works brilliantly with Google Navigation and Back Country Navigator, which allows you to cache topo maps on your SD card. With the mobile mount on my dash, I typically zoom into about .05 mile, and let it roll.

Ozark Mtns, Nov 2010: "100 Meters at a Time"

"100 Meters After Yesterday" First, the title must be explained. 100 meters. It's Saturday morning, we're up, caffeinated and start out. 30 minutes in we hit a trail and take that monumental turn to go check it out. Little did we know what we were getting into. Massive amounts of dead...

    Arkansas Fall Foliage Frolicking

Yeah, yeah... I missed the opening on that one, and I'm not surprised it was you who barged through. :)

    Arkansas Fall Foliage Frolicking

Well, I guess I should be honest ...I would have just hit the motor and continued to wear the trail (I got quite a few waves and thumbs up this week from passer-bys), but I've got a date tomorrow night. Hah.

    Arkansas Fall Foliage Frolicking

I actually ran a breather tube higher up and zip tied off against the firewall next to my battery, since short of my air box and alternator, it's the highest point in the well. I was telling Leary, on the way into Russelville, I couldn't go faster than 50, and she was knocking a bit. I pretty...

Wait, I thought one of the requirements for expedition'ing was owning stock in O'Reillys? EDIT: I just realized what I opened myself up for, so I'm going to totally steal the thunder with the following... Only if you own a Jeep. Har har har!

I figured you would like that, because you know ...without that Trail Rated sticker, I'm better off flexing on parking stops at the mall. ;)

Hey, check out my new Jeep! Jeep Wrangler "ExPo 2010" Edition. Trail Rated!

Hah! Well, the main requirement for being a "Black Sheep" is a black vehicle and well, he has a white one. But you know, there is always a solution to any problem! Scott and I were talking about "wearing the trail", and we both vowed to not wash our vehicles and let the rain do it's thing...

Hah! Short of scooping mud out of my airbox with my bare hands, I was pretty pleased with ole Irene. And thanks for the Pine Tree air freshner. That was the only thing that kept me from sticking my head out the window like a dog on the way home.

Ya, Group 4 was the "red-headed step children" of the expedition. I suppose it's because it had both Jeeps, right Leary? ;)

    Arkansas Fall Foliage Frolicking

Not to sound like a broken record, but thanks to Wes, Leary, and everyone else for such a wonderful time. What impressed me the most was the fact that there was an overabundance of helping hands, which is much more desirable than not enough. I can't speak for anyone else, but knowing there are...
