It's a personal choice, but we have customers doing that all the time (putting the short bed Hawk Model, on the shorter 5.5' bed trucks).
If it was a fully loaded Hawk Model weighing in at 1450 lbs (plus all of your gear & water), I would be much more hesitant.

The Raven Model will fit flush on a full sized short bed truck, with no overhang.
The Swift Model will fit flush on a mid-sized 6' bed truck, with no overhang.
But that said, 99% of our customers seem to want the extra room inside the camper.
I would upgrade to turnbuckles with lock nut, if you can find the right size. Something like this ...
And add a rubber bed mat to the truck, if you don’t already have one.
If that doesn’t do the trick, adding some simple ratchet straps inside...
I had my friend measure his older 8.0' Northstar pop-up camper.
From his cabover bed mattress to the ceiling inside was about 22".
I measured a Grandby Model this morning, and from the mattress to the ceiling is approx. 28"
