Yes, a smaller bar could help split the difference. But I doubt the bar changed more than 1mm between years/trim levels, if at all. So it would probably be fruitless. In other vehicles, the range between OE base model bars and aftermarket "sport" bars can be +/- 40% diameter.

Man, it's nice to see people are still selling old used cars at fair prices. I overpaid dearly for my '98 ($5k with 228k miles!!!!!!!). One suggestion might be to take it to a shop you trust, and get a "pre purchase" type of inspection. They'll check all the basic systems and let you know what...

Nice to see this thread is still alive. I do wish, however, that more people would explore the supercharger route. M90's are still cheap (under 250 bucks) and plentiful. And at low boost, neither fueling nor intercooling would be an issue (there are several ways to piggyback extra fueling...

There IS a low-cost Chinese option that has really good reviews with Toyota and Nissan guys. Look up TRE lockers. It's what I plan to use when I lock the front axle. Some guys report using them for years on trail rigs with no issues.

Blocks wouldn't increase the load capacity at all...I was hoping to find something sprung a little heavier. But, the OME leaf pack is pretty cheap, so I think I'll just recommend he go that route. I have the OME HD setup on mine, and it's perfectly level when fully loaded with gear/fluids/etc...

Hey all! One of my best friends just joined the Montero (Sport) fold, and we're looking to do a few basic things on as much of a budget as possible. It's a '98, so the rear is leaf sprung. I'm wondering...does anyone know of a junkyard solution that would provide approximately a 2-inch lift...
