    2001 Suburban K2500 - Summer Camping & Winter Commuting

RhinoRack 76"x54" Pioneer Aluminum Platform I've been thinking about adding some sort of roof platform for a few years now. Not a cargo platform though. A photography platform. I have two Yakima Skybox cargo boxes I have used extensively for camping and travel. The cargo boxes served me well...

    2001 Suburban K2500 - Summer Camping & Winter Commuting

Time to bring this old thread back from the dead! Life keeps on changing and the Suburban is gonna keep on changing with it. In the beginning this rig was my daily commuter and occasional camper. Over the last few years that use has declined significantly with the Sub now being used solely for...

    Ultimate Goal Zero In-Car charging

Sorry for the late reply. You might have already fixed this but... I don't see any reason for you to get a DC-DC charger. Lithium batteries may need a higher charge voltage but AGM is fine with 14-15v I believe that you are overthinking the situation. Your vehicle's "smart" alternator is...

    Goal Zero Yeti 400 Experiences?

Hey Swift. Sorry for the late reply. Perfectly fine to keep connected to solar even at low voltage. That is all good. Second battery chaining is exactly as you describe. Would be ideal to use an identical replacement Yeti 400 battery but anything that is roughly the same capacity will work...

    Let's See Custom Center Consoles

Audio console built off the stock 2001 SUburban console. The sides hold two 8" Kicker "Free Air" subs, the top of the console holds two subwoofer control knobs and three exterior lighting switches. Below that I have the stock "cubby" door with a 160GB ipod behind. On the back of the console I...

    Ultimate Goal Zero In-Car charging

First off - I have a dual battery so I wired my system a little different. My instructions for you relate to a single battery. The Yeti will only charge when the vehicle is running and making above 13.5V. It will not drain the 12.5V car battery. The Yeti needs to be charged through the 8mm...

2500HD Replacement Radiators - Is thinner better?

Aftermarket dual pullers in place of the engine driven fan. Stand alone controller.

2500HD Replacement Radiators - Is thinner better?

Some quick feedback. Thin radiator is cooling VERY well so far. It definitely flows more air. I know this because the temperature controlled electric cooling fans are NEVER turning on. They turn on with AC but during stop & go driving in 60º-70º temps the fans never turn on and the temp stays...

2500HD Replacement Radiators - Is thinner better?

Old one was aluminum with plastic end tanks. New one is the same construction. It looks like the new one might have a slightly higher fin density but not twice the # of fins. The radiator for the GM 2500s includes a trans cooler and an oil cooler so you can't run a "standard" replacement rad...

    2001 Suburban K2500 - Summer Camping & Winter Commuting

Thanks Chilli. I spent the week screwing around with various thin core rads from Autozone and GM. Not exactly "happy" with the thin core radiator I found but I've been told that it will keep the truck cool. I'll post more photos after I get everything finished this weekend.

2500HD Replacement Radiators - Is thinner better?

Hi All. I'm replacing the radiator in my Suburban 2500HD and I discovered some "interesting" issues. The original radiator has a nearly 3" thick core. ALL the replacements I could find have a 1.25" core. The word from the manufacturers is new/better tech has the thin-core achieving BETTER...

    2001 Suburban K2500 - Summer Camping & Winter Commuting

My radiator started leaking from a crack in the end tank. Common problem it seems. Radiator removal was straightforward except for one thing. The 2500 trucks have a thicker radiator than the 1500s and the airbox support blocks it during removal. Here are a couple of pics to show the bracket...

    Dual Battery: not rocket science?

If they do enough dual battery installs on enough different vehicles these mechanics may see the wisdom of tying the grounds together. Theoretically there is no reason to tie them together but in the real world there are many problems that can appear when you don't. Minor differences in voltage...

    Let's see your GMT800 headlights

Depo's are the ticket. Low beams with LED bulbs are brighter than anything else you can get. High beams are only OK though. They are not projector so brighter bulbs don't help much. You can check out my install at...

    Goal Zero Yeti 400 Experiences?

Yeti 400 is supposed to be limited to 120W max but the controller seems to allow more from a strong DC source. I saw 138w in my truck with one of the earliest Yeti 400 models. You will want fuse at the battery for the supply wire. Fuse protects the wire. Yeti 400 is supposed to be limited to...
