    Delorme in Maine

Being a Mainer, IMHO you want the latest DeLorme. It will not be 100% accurate by any means but it helps. I’ve found a few gates in my rambles that failed to show on the sat images too. Washouts are common as well. I use both, keep my fingers crossed, and always prepared to have to drive in...

Wicked, as we say here in Maine. Can't wait to read more.

    2M Antenna Recommendations?

Thanks Lumpy. Great job of giving a novice the nuts and bolts info needed when shopping for an antenna. You also reminded me that I need to upgrade from my 1/4 wave on my 2M rig. Geoff

Do you feel the need to have a weapon when camping

Here's a real life situation to ponder on this subject. Happening right now about 60 miles from me. http://bangordailynews.com/2015/06/12/news/piscataquis/police-urge-caution-for-campers-during-search-for-murder-suspect/ You never really know who or what you might meet in the woods. This guy...

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

Deep Thought. I laughed at that one. Know where did I put my towel??

High performance 4.0 or 4.2 aluminum head is available.

I'm always skeptical when companies claim big number gains over stock. But I took a quick look around for stock 4L dyno charts and from what I could see, this new head does not really penalize you anywhere in the power curve. It's can be relatively easy to boost peak HP or torque at a given...

Teardrop / Expo trailer parts suppliers?

I used Little Bear when i built mine 6 years ago, but it looks like he's semi-retired now and has limited offerings. He was fantastic to deal with though. One phone call and he could send you all the trim and hinges and associated fasteners you needed, along with most everything else. Take a...

Fiberglass M416/M100 Military-style Trailer Tub Kit

My vote is for the OD. Simple, clean and classic. Mil camo's, IMHO, just say Operator wannabe. You're not really trying to hide the thing, right? The average person see's OD and thinks nothing of it. They see camo and think gun nut and more. Just something to consider.

Who Still uses cast iron while traveling?

We bring two cast iron dutch ovens, one with legs and one without. Very versatile and as others have said, once seasoned and used a bit they're as easy to clean as teflon stuff.

    Red Wing Heritage Boots

For some reason I never saw a reply notification for this. Sorry the RW try did not work out. It would have been interesting to see what the Brannock showed for your arch vs. toe length measurements. From the sounds of it you have the old "long arch short toes" foot shape. If you ever get a...

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Put some Treadwright Axiom's on it. 215/85-16. Excellent in snow and greasy roads. Got to wait for mud season for that testing parameter.

    2001 Jeep Cherokee - Budget/Quality Weekend Overlander

Very nice. I have a similar rig. 2000 with 85K on it, but up here they rot out before they wear out. At 200k+, it's probably already been done, but check your cylinder head to make sure it's not a disaster waiting to happen. If you already know about the 0331 heads on the 2000 and 2001's...

    Red Wing Heritage Boots

Thanks. This thread has really drifted all over the place, mostly do to me, and I apologize for that. Sold a fair amount of Danners too, good shoes but drifting up in price and some of the styles have gone backwards in design I feel. Soles mostly, and that's only on the imports. Allow me to...
