Aspen-Sopris Ranger District cleared the rockslide/obstruction, and Schofield is open. Some friends drove it July 4th or 5th.

Colorado: Medano Pass, Daisy Pass, and Mount Antero

Thanks! The pass was pretty dry but there were still spots of running water coming down the area where there is a turnoff to the reservoir (downhill from the open gate and fence marking the "national preserve"). The deepest crossing was about 16-18", others downstream (with stone bottoms) were...

Colorado: Medano Pass, Daisy Pass, and Mount Antero

My son had some buddies out from the east coast for a week (they're all 18-19 years old), and they wanted to undertake some adventure and camping. They made some day trips from our home in Colorado Springs but were really anticipating the off-road experience and some camping. We started on...

Ouray, Colorado: Four days in the San Juans

Wednesday, our last day, we drove Governor Basin and found that it remains closed (to 4-wheel vehicles, bikes and motorcycles can pass). Overall it was a great trip, we mapped/photographed seven roads and are ready to lead a larger group coming from the Springs later in August.

Ouray, Colorado: Four days in the San Juans

Tuesday, Day 3, the weather was shaping better than Monday; clear skies earlier in the morning. We drove south on Highway 550 to the trailhead to Black Bear Pass. Today's goal is to run Black Bear and Imogene Pass back into Ouray. We completed the trip including the creation of new GPS tracks...

Ouray, Colorado: Four days in the San Juans

Monday was overcast/hazy in the morning, and soon the sun was peeking through, if only briefly. We drove and photographed Corkscrew Gulch (Pass), Hurricane Gulch (Pass), and California Pass. Before completing this route and arriving at Animas Forks, the rain showers had returned--at times...

Ouray, Colorado: Four days in the San Juans

A friend and I made a quick 4-day trip this week, Sunday through Wednesday, to Ouray, Silverton, and Telluride. The plan was to make reconnaissance for a larger club group going next month, and to produce tracks, waypoints, photos, and videos for trailsoffroad.com. Sunday, we drove to Ouray...

Empire, Colorado: Red Elephant Hill, Mill Creek, and Bill Moore Lake in July 2017

Yes, I believe that the Lewis Sweet shop is still open in Empire! This was only my second trip there (first time in 2008), so I'm not well informed about Empire, but I will visit again!

Empire, Colorado: Red Elephant Hill, Mill Creek, and Bill Moore Lake in July 2017

Another adventurous weekend with friends from Meetup/trailsoffroad in Denver. This was a day trip to shoot new photos and video in order to update trail guides on Red Elephant Hill, Mill Creek, and Bill Moore Lake roads. Our group was small, only three rigs; a Jeep TJ, a well-built Tacoma...
