While interested in motorcycles since I was a kid, my dad sold all of his when I was a young teenager. I got bitten by the ADV bug in my late 20s, and rode Dual-Sports for a number of years. When I was 35, I had a fluke accident on my best friend's VStrom 1000 that resulted in $12 worth of damage to the bike, $408,000 worth of medical bills, and spinal cord injury that resulted in permanent paralysis from my chest down. I don't get out on the trail as much as I would like, but now I have a 1974 VW-based sand rail that has been converted to pnuematic hand controls (manual transmission still!!!), a 2001 Ural Patrol that has been converted to hand controls, a 1986 Chevy El Camino with a wheelchair hoist in the bed, and a 450HP LS1 under the hood. I recently acquired a 2012 Chevy Silverado LT 4x4 that has a Freedom Motors wheelchair conversion, allowing me to drive from my wheelchair. Currently outfitting it to allow my girlfriend and I to get away from town and camp out of it for a few days at a time.
Was hoping to ride to Alaska for my best friends' 40th birthday, but after my crash, since he has 2 young kids, he sold the VStrom. The trip could still happen, possibly on bikes, the Ural, the Dune Buggy, or even the truck.... who knows!
