    2000 Ford Explorer

Great start! I have a 1997 5.0 4x4 - I think Explorers are great platforms to build on. Looking forward to seeing more of your rig!

I do have room on top, and that's what I'm thinking actually. The lid is pretty sturdy. My build thread is here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/154313-quot-Backpack-quot

Fully loaded. I'm looking for a better way to carry 4 bikes.

A recent camping trip to the Cypress Hills in Saskatchewan. One pic fully loaded with the trailer and canoe, another at the top of the Conglomerate Cliffs, near the Alberta border.

    Trailer Axle and Spring Pins

The locating pins on my springs are a much smaller diameter than the holes in my spring perches. Do I need to find some kind of bushing to make sure these fit tightly, or can I just center the axle as best I can and tighten the u-bolts down?

    "Backpack"

Thanks! There is an extension that goes on the front of the tongue that provides lots of clearance though. I've been towing it around town and the extra weight and length really balance the trailer out nicely.

    "Backpack"

A few updates: 1. As some who is new to the world of trailers, I've learned a lot. First, and perhaps most importantly, the trailer sitting in this position (see above) as it's natural resting state is not good. I added a storage rack in front of the box to shift some weight onto the tongue...

How do you have that much snow left!? Ours has been gone for weeks. Or is this just deep in the bush somewhere?

    Snorkel Installation Question

lol. On the off chance someone else stumble upon this thread, I've heard of SikaFlex being used a LOT in the boating world. So assuming the product hasn't been discontinued in the past decade, a good boating supply house might just have what you are (were) looking for.

What vehicles make the best Expedition platforms?

I will second the 2nd Gen Ford Explorers. V8 and AWD, with the ability to swap in a manual transfer case. Lifts are available, as are bumpers, skids, etc. I'm very happy with mine, though it's mostly stock. But there are lots of heavily modified examples out there. They also made millions of...

    "Backpack"

Here it is - new to me trailer. Very lightweight homebuilt that should suit my purposes perfectly. Will fit a top to it, add some matching wheels and tires, and create some kind of camp kitchen or table for use in camp. There will not be a RTT, but I will haul my big Cabella's tent in it.

Love it! Simple trucks that work well in stock form. Miss my 89.

What makes an off-road trailer an off-road trailer

This has actually been very informative for me. A few things I hand't thought of (bearings) and a lot of things mentioned that I didn't really understand. Thanks everyone! Keep the suggestions coming!
