RainGoat

Exploring the outdoors for nearly 30 years. After settling down for a while, I am reentering active exploration with my kids.

I inherited my wanderlust and urge to explore from my Mother. She is 74 and spends at least a couple months a year travelling throughout the West. We share a 2018 Toyota 4Runner Off Road Premium after her 2nd Jeep died, a 2006 JGC. I've driven everything from a Subaru Outback to a stripped Isuzu Trooper to a TLC FJ80. My current truck is a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder LE which is the only vehicle I've ever purchased new.

I'm changing my backcountry explorations from weeklong primitive odysseys into the unknown when I was single a decade ago into family & "overland" style camping and weekend getaways with my young kids.

It has been very interesting to see this new surge in overlanding. I used to have to always explain that I wasn't a rock crawler but just a guy who liked to use my truck to get to remote and beautiful areas. Now it has a name. Sure, it's brought some overuse, but it seems to me it is also helping foster a sense of community and inclusion. I am very pleased and excited to be diving back in!
