Police need your permission, a warrant or probable cause to search your car.
However, I am not a lawyer.
I have been pulled over once with a firearm in my truck in a state that I was legally allowed to, (Colorado). I said that there was a loaded firearm in my center console and that I had a...
I will add another perspective, I was a bit surprised how much difference extra weight makes when traversing uneven terrain. There is a reason Earthroamer type vehicles cost 500K plus. A lot of tech goes into the suspension and robustness of the "house" interior. You are basically exposing your...
Or a regular 2wd RV and tow a jeep behind it? I agree with other posts. You are looking for a unicorn that defies physics and will have to compromise somewhere.
Or, wait for the economy to crash to open up possibilities within your budget.
Thanks!
The Carli suspension systems definitely get great reviews. They might be designed for more off road performance than I need or want to pay for but I am researching their products.
If I did one modification at a time, I would get better feedback on what was working. However, if I pay to have someone swap out suspension parts, I will probably save money to have several parts replaced at once. Based on the feedback here, I'm thinking custom rear springs for my specific load...
Yes, but they soften up bigger hits at higher speed like potholes. Also, thanks for the correction in terminology, I edited my post from "regressive" to digressive. I'm not sure if they are interchangeable terms or if I just remember incorrectly.
I am satisfied with stock ground clearance which is pretty good in my opinion. I agree with the above statement when at lower speeds and reduced articulation. To be more specific about my goals, when I switched out my 4runner shocks with Bilstein 6112/5160s, the digressive damping was...
All great info, thank you. I have considered Carli leveling kit but raising the CG by adding a lift seems counterproductive to reducing sway. Also, they are not cheap and I'm pretty sure they are on backorder. I might circle back to Carli later if I can't get the performance I want with...
You mean replacing the rear leaf springs? My impression is the stock F350 springs are a pretty close match as it sits fairly level but I'm open to suggestions otherwise.
I have a single rear wheel F350 short bed and a load of about 3k lbs wet with all the gear and people. My truck does okay but I would like to improve handling around corners and over high speed bumps, (potholes or uneven pavement). I was thinking of starting with bilstein 5100 shocks and a...
2500 lbs is actually probably a bit lower than reality. I plan on hitting a scale next time I use it. That being said, the wet weights on 4 wheel campers are listed in the 2000 lb range so I would still temper expectations as far as rock crawling.
Offroading yes, my tablet keeps spell correcting it to offloading. I haven't weighed it yet, but an Outfitter Apex, (I am guessing 2500 lbs full of water). When going over mild uneven terrain it rocks and sways so I would be uncomfortable driving on significant off camber or moderate obstacles...
I got a slide in pop up camper and mounted it on a 1 ton thinking it would be perfect for dirt forest roads. Having driven it on uneven roads, I totally underestimated how much the extra weight and bulk would reduce offroading capability. Maybe a camper shell with a raised roofline would be a...
