I'm with you!! It's pretty angering that members here decide to be toxic and put down someone's choice of brand truck. Every single vehicle on earth has plus and minuses.
This is a fantastic build and I'm excited to see the end result of all the great modifications of this build.
This, and I will add in ALL circumstances it's better to be fused and have a disconnect. I would not ever use any kind of circuit breaker in a 12 volt system. Circuit breakers can fail. I'm all for the redundancy of fuses when building out a mobile system in a vehicle. I fuse for the wire and...
I have the 300. I also have a dual battery setup in my truck with solar charge controller and isolation switch. If you really want to get the most DC out of your solar generator, simply add a rectifier adapter cord off the AC outlet. Depending on how many amps you need, you can get a few outlets...
My solar generator has more than enough DC outlets. USB's and a 12 V socket I plug into that has an Anderson adapter I added. Bang for the buck the Jackery solar generators are hard to beat. Very light, compact and reliable as anything out there.
FWIW I have a 2005 GMC Sierra base. 4.3 liter V6 with 5 speed manual and 3.73 gears. It has a 3" knuckle lift, 265/70 x 17 tires and soft topper. I get 16-17 mpg around the city and 19-20mpg highway when doing 70mph unloaded. When I tow it drops to 12mpg no matter how careful I drive.
Very well stated Bill!! Also a bed cap or dropping the tailgate kills fuel economy as well. I scratch my head in bewilderment with these loaded down rooftop rigs with huge awnings, steel bumpers, winches and all that spare fuel. I bet they are dropping 7-8 mpg on some of them.
My problem with anything that has to do with camping is weight and bulk and time needed for getting setup/torn down. It is getting out of control and ridiculous. RTT's, spare fuel, awnings, roof racks loaded down, and a whole bunch of useless junk to complicate an easy setup and teardown...
Not at all. I’m all about leaving no trace and enjoying my privacy. Nobody I have seen flys drones where I go. I’m using my friends poacher mentality as an extreme example of how to behave in the “Leave no trace” line of thinking.
Talk of pulling firearms and loaded shotguns when hearing...
And the drama continues. I wonder how many of these stories are even real. I find it very difficult to believe all this nonsense. I've been camping in the Western US since a child and never once encountered close to what EP members are describing.
This is 5 pages of paranoia!! It blows my mind the encounters that off grid travelers are unable to avoid. I have never once been in a sketchy situation in the woods or the desert because I set my camp up with a plan. All these YouTube videos of goofballs making camp on smooth areas and easy to...
Over the years I make sure I'm in a spot that is very difficult to access. Never ever go off grid with a towable or RV. One way in one way out with vehicle. On high ground. If you are having strange experiences with other humans then you are not truly off grid.
I stand by my previous statement. Your long winded manifesto of a post makes no sense at all. Every single thing you are claiming cannot be had is only because buyers don't want it anyway. There is no reason to settle for something you are not going to enjoy.
