Another dead alternator on my 1999 Monty

Passenger front camshaft seal? I had more trouble with this issue on our Montero Sport 3.5L, not so much on the full size Montero's but still worth a look. Hard to see the evidence with the engine shut off. The oil will drip from the timing belt cover right down onto the Alternator in the...

Newer dash style in older van??

"Holy old thread resurrection Batman..." If you still want to do this, here's how. I saw a post on FTE vans sub-forum asking about cluster swaps on up to '96 vans. Forgot that I did this project following an old truck forum thread. Anyhow, it can be done using an F-250/350 gas engine...

    Cylinder-1 Misfire: advice needed

"All my misfires have been plug wires..." (sung to the tune of exes from Texas). Well except for that one time that I had a dead coil. Sounds like you nailed it but don't forget to double check the obvious items while you are in there.

    2003 montero live data reader

I ordered/downloaded Evoscan. It is "the cats meow" for Lancer Evo folks, but it's pretty slick for OBDII scan for Montero, and will display and record a fair amount of live data. It does way more than our Montero's can feed, and I have no need to reflash the computer. Software is cheap...

    Will this hitch fit a 2001 Montero Limited w/ 3.5 V6?

That looks to be the same as the Curt and/or Draw Tite. It is different in mounting design from the OEM and will hang down lower, and the receiver tube sticks out farther to the rear, exacerbating our already relatively low departure angle problem. But it will fit, and I use Curt products on...

    Will this hitch fit a 2001 Montero Limited w/ 3.5 V6?

I also have an '06 with the OEM/Dealer installed hitch. It is a round tube design, still high, but sits a bit lower than the 01-02. Maybe the bumper layout is different like @Michael Brown mentioned? I took these pics awhile back for a contact on the West coast with a similar inquiry. Maybe...

    Will this hitch fit a 2001 Montero Limited w/ 3.5 V6?

Here's what "for sure" fits the '01-'02 and is OEM/Dealer install. It does sit higher than all the aftermarket ones. Long ago discontinued. '01-02 hitch

    Help with excessive oil burning

-Check rear cam seal(s), telescoping mirror helps. -At timing belt/water pump service check front cam seals and crank seal -On a recent timing belt service, I discovered my oil pump housing bolts were all a bit loose and there was a bit of oil seeping, but not enough to cause consumption. -If...

2005 Montero Limited in cold Canadian Winters

So this is possibly not going to be fun. I have the same issue on my '02 Montero Limited. The way the heater core is set up, the air passes through the evaporator core first then the heater core. The heater core is flat and rectangular sitting lengthwise left to right, and the left (driver's...

Thinking about buying another 2001-2006 ltd

If you mean "wheel spacers" no, these are stock. What kind of spacers are you asking about...?

Thinking about buying another 2001-2006 ltd

Welcome back! Do it. Being debt free, and having 3 Monteros is pretty nifty...or crazy depending on your point of view. (Ok, one is a Sport). I bought a basket case '06 listed for parts. Two prior mechanics could not get it running. Broke the timing belt on the Interstate. I'm running it...

2002 Montero 4x4 Trans and Rear diff help!

Since @MikeE75 is new to the neighborhood, I'll make a friendly defense... Post #1 He says "2002 XLS" Post #4 Picture of his truck, a blue 2002 XLS, which you accurately posted would have the 4-speed auto, 4.90 gearset. I think where I got confused was the junkyard conversation about the 2004...

Gen 3 Montero / Pajero - What does this coolant cluster do & is this OK? Also where should this be attached? Also, what about this missing bolt?

The wire loom bracket bolts to the back of the transmission bellhousing. You have the bolt there already. See these pics from my truck. (I have already fixed the oil leaks that got the wire loom all nasty, thank you very much...) ;) As far as the "missing bolt" goes, you may be right. I'd...

2002 Montero 4x4 Trans and Rear diff help!

It can be difficult to find a good repair shop that can speak fluent "Mitsubishi", especially the more rare "Montero" dialect... The rear differentials usually fair pretty well, unless the companion shaft circlip fails and leaks the gear oil out. Then you can have a rather dramatic failure...

2002 Montero 4x4 Trans and Rear diff help!

Wow, what an amazing run of bad luck and rather unusual. Were you able to get a second opinion? Anyhow, the '03 and newer rear differentials don't appear to interchange with the '01-'02 models. (Car-Part.com and Mitsubishi Online parts lookup). Same for the transmissions. This might be due...
