    Sock preference

I've worn the wigwam, smart wool, and REI, but I decided on Lorpen. My heals make quick work of cotton socks, and wool socks last much longer for me, but over the past year, I have been switching between 4 pair of Lorpen T2W's. Wearing them over and over, every three days is wash day. I wear...

    Difference between Hilux & Tacoma

A couple thing I noticed in this set of pictures of a 2009: 1. While it looks very similar to the new 2012 interior, That Sat nav in the dash wasn't offered untill this year in the Tacoma. 2. HAND BREAK! I really wish I had that in the Tacoma 3. It appears to be a manual 4x4 engagement lever...

Winter Camping thread, share stories, advice...

Just want to add a quick tip before heading to bed. Keep warm water in a thermos, or an insulated nalgene bottle. Its a lot easier, and uses less fuel to use that fresh snow when putting it into warm water already. Batteries should be stored close to the body to stay warm...not against the...

    ER on the move Galveston

This beauty showed up today at the Galveston TX port. I didn't check to see where you were shipping her, but I will post when I load her on the ship. (PS, I had to close the vent on top. All drawers/ doors/ and switches in back were still untampered and taped off)

    Watches - ExPo Style

I was issued this somewhere around 1999 or 2000. http://www.marathonwatch.com/assets/u/ww194006l.jpg I have only taken it off for a one month stint to replace the rubber watchband that finally gave way in 2009. It survived many countries and several engagements, but the crystal is still...

Arctic and extreme cold weather gear

Scott, I like your list so far. I would like to add my 2 cents. I agree 100% on the mukluks. http://wiggys.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=41 is a good start. I would also recommend a mukluks that has 2 sets of liners, so you can swap them out every other day. I found the " bunny" or " Mickey...

I know better, but I'll ask anyway - why not MRE's

I agree with TACODOC on this. MRE's have made leaps and bounds in the past couple decades. I remembering chipping a tooth on a dehydrated beef patty...man that was a nasty meal. But nowadays they taste and pack better. I usually strip them down further to get rid of the stuff I don't need. They...
