An alternative to holes would be a second electric fan. I have seen that done I think here in this forum by a few different people.

No that is a Gen 3 Full size Montero. i think the OP has a 3rd Gen and you and I have a Sport/Challenger or Pajero sport. This has lead to some confusion with all posters

The air box in a Montero Sport is right behind the left front headlight and the antenna is by the window on the same side there shouldn't be any reason for interference.

I have been considering this too (2001 Sport XS) but have been toying with adding a cold air pipe from factory air box to intake if anyone has any thoughts on that I would gladly listen. Again I will keep the factory air box to protect the filter since adding a snorkel than deleting the air box...
Well it has been a while since I have posted on this forum but this is the perfect spot! I haven't done much other than dd my sport but over the last two months I have added a backup camera hiding the wires was a fun exercise, which lead me to find a knocking noise I had been looking for. It was...
I purchased a 2001 XS back about 8 years ago aside from some minor problems, and doing the Timing belt last year I have not had what I would consider any realizability issues. It still needs some work but I am knocking on 300k and it goes as strong as it did 8 years ago.
You should be able to look under the passenger side of the dash and see the screws, nuts or whatever holds the fan in and just undo those to pull it and see what died in there. Just FYI you may never get rid of that smell with out replacing any and all foam bits.
Okay Sport owners need some help here doing the shocks on my 01 xs and have rounded out the nut on the rear drivers shock. I will get it off with a nut remover tool. That aside how in the holy hell do you get that one off? ?? I tried everything but no luck.
Thoughts musings or experience?
I am sure because there was a loose bolt in the timing belt and a missing bolt on the crank sensor. I have thoroughly checked the belt and everything.
It runs fantastic right now. Just charging the battery.
Looks like everything is okay inspected belt and all looks fine. Gear is fine, so is the part that pulses the signal. So that is good all is going together well.
